Bimota 1100 TESI 3D 2008

Some manufacturers are guided by a single imperative: performance. Others by design, some by originality. Bimota speaks out on another ground: exclusivity. Too much maybe sometimes, which caused the factory to relieve the eccentricity of its Tesi concept. The 3rd generation of this machine, called Tesi 3D, is still evolving in its concept while harmonizing the stylistic line. Must say that 2D was singularly … surprising.

Recall Bimota’s Tesi concept. Use a swing arm for the front end to pass and fork. The system, separating the suspension and steering functions, uses a set of connecting rods and a steering hub. The specificities of this technique are explained in detail in the sheet of the first Tesi, the 1D model from 1991. If the principle remains the same since 1D, remarkable developments have appeared in 3D. The oscillating arms, front and rear, are thus made up of a trellis structure made of steel tubes connected to aluminum plates. This construction made its debut on the DB5. Engineers also optimized braking until they managed to include a radial mounting system for the front calipers..
The centerpiece of the frame remains the 2 aluminum patinas constituting the Omega frame, here less openwork than on the 2D. He holds prisoner the last twin desmo from Ducati, the 1100 DS which equips the Multistrada. Bimota has adapted the injection somewhat to make the engine behavior more suited to the personality of the Tesi. Still, for the exorbitant price of this machine, the decency would have been to put something beefier, like a 996 or a 998. The Tesi 1D of 15 years ago was entitled to the Desmoquattro of the 851.

Let’s put aside these mechanical considerations to focus on the very essence of the Tesi: the exception. A motorcycle unlike any other, where every part seems to have been designed to disturb the mortals that we are. The drawing has become smoother and more homogeneous compared to 2D. The front is more sporty and less prototypical; the rear originates from the DB5. More than an alternative to conventional sports cars, the Tesi 3D is above all a great pretext for the creation of a modern sculpture bringing together Bimota’s passion. The beautiful pieces can no longer be counted while the eccentricity spreads to the edges of the mirrors. The 10 cm high triangle bubble sums up all the tricks: style priority.

Wiser, more powerful, the Tesi 3D is also less expensive than its predecessor. At 29,000 € the end, it still remains an object for aesthetes. If you absolutely want one, be a little patient. This first series will soon be followed by a line for “general public” distribution, at only € 25,000, dare I say….
