Bimota 1000 TESI 2D 2006

Rarely has the motorcycle industry produced such an amazing machine for us. Is there an even more amazing machine? The Munch Mammut? No, not even. Possibly the Y2K with helicopter turbine or the Dodge Tomahawk … And again, it is especially their spanking engines that have struck the spirits. The Tesi is a motorcycle of another species, the precedents of which can be counted on the fingers of one hand; namely the Tesi 1D 1st named 1991, and the Yamaha 1000 GTS.

Because what distinguishes these models in a surprising way, it is their front axle without telescopic fork. As on the 1D, the Tesi 2005 uses a system of swinging arm, steering hub and a system of transmission links completely incredible. More complicated, you die! We will come back to this system in more depth in the next sheet on the Bimota Tesi 1D..
Technical shock, visual shock. Unlike its ancestor, the 2D scrolls without its fairing. A provocative nudity where the gaze scrutinizes and intrigues each element. The heart of the Bimota is the desmodromic twin of the Ducati 1000 SS (N.R: the first Tesi of 91 had the right to 2 versions of the desmoquattro of the Ducati 851, 103 and 113 hp). The mechanism is just hidden behind the garter belt which acts as a frame, or 2 heavily perforated aluminum plates where the 2 swinging arms are anchored. From the chest escapes a carbon appendage which brings fresh air to the air box made of the same material. An exhaust under the saddle? Okay, too banal. And as the centering of the masses is a priority for the Tesi, the pot is found under the engine, as on the Buell.
Another interesting feature is the size of the swingarm. Generously sized, too much even in view of the advertised power. Imagine: almost a piece of MotoGP to withstand less than 90 nags … Strange, unless the Rimini factory has planned to upgrade the Tesi with a more powerful engine.
No more detail, make way for the whole. The Tesi’s vision is that of a particularly complex machine. A real gas factory whose notion of beauty remains very subjective. But should we remember only that of this Bimota? Take a closer look at the technical data sheet and in particular the weight. There is something to remain forbidden. 149 kg with full! Exceptional. Barely the weight of a trail and 30 kg less than the lightest Japanese sports car.

BIMOTA TESI 2D This mini weight makes it possible to take great advantage of the character and the torque of the Bolognese twin-cylinder. Its pulsations shake the large analog tachometer on which is grafted a tiny digital display that looks like stuck on a bicycle. Quite a prototype dashboard. A good dose of sensations and a big blow of gas later, the 2D tumbles at nearly 230 km / h. Not extraordinary in the face of overpowering Japanese people who hit the 300 but not bad at all for a 86 hp machine, and moreover completely naked. The Brembos have no trouble braking this featherweight.

Now, this very technical front axle, what does it bring to the machine? Well…. The Tesi swings easily from one angle to another but the pilot does not have enough feeling about what is going on under the bracelets. The front is not communicating enough info about the work they are doing. Not ideal for a sportswoman. Like what, this big mess is not as efficient as one might hope.

Do not see the Bimota Tesi 2D as a pistarde but rather as a creation coupled with an exercise in style. Originality takes precedence, technique intrigues and is aimed at enthusiasts of new solutions. Considering the price, we are entitled to ask questions. In fact, 46,000 € is not the price of the motorcycle but that of the exclusivity.
