BMW C1 testRoll covered

Car / motorbike manufacturer offers motorbike without wearing a helmet but with a belt
of security. The BMW C1 represents this auto-motorcycle hybrid, from a well-known manufacturer
for the top of the range in each of the sectors. And to stay in the concept, the BMW C1
was presented to the press in April 2000 at the Palace of Versailles…

From the C1, we first notice the roof and the surrounding bodywork…
then the wiper and seat belts. These allow
get rid of the helmet and other safety clothing. So much so that the C1 is and
remains the first and only "scooter" approved not to cause wearing
mandatory helmet. So much so that the national police took many months to
get used to it, after having distributed numerous tickets for not wearing a helmet. Is this
still really a scooter for that matter? We cannot in fact step over it like a motorbike,
but we rather enter the passenger compartment. Once inside, we
unlocks the central stand by a central lever, without any effort. We could
then expect to feel the full weight of the structure but it is not. Despite
its 185 kg dry, the C1 is handled like a standard scooter.

The gaze then falls on the dashboard, closer to that of a
cart than a motorbike. Motorists will not lose their bearings, including
by the two-speed wiper controlled from the handlebars.

BMW C1 testContact ! It’s good
a discreet 125 cm3. The catalytic converter absorbs noise well. We accelerate, carefully,
with this funny feeling fear reassured of knowing how the bubble will behave
rolling. But the C1 is easy to handle. It accelerates slowly and does not risk
to surprise with his nervousness, even handle in the corner, to reach his 103
km / hour maximum. The original rotax small single cylinder turns well
to distill its 15 horses. First turn, we tilt … and the C1 tilts at
right then left in the pif paf. The technique is there. It shall really not
try to turn with the handlebars, but rather lean and work with the weight
from the body. Under this condition, it even gives the impression of taking an angle
impressive, the amounts of the windshield distorting the usual benchmarks.

BMW C1 on the trackWhat about security? Well, in order to provide a really test
exhaustive, my team-mate also tested the fall at 40 km / h, without feeling anything! The
seat belts played their part, keeping the body and head in
the passenger compartment. The side clogs tore off to absorb the shock, without further
consequence on the body. In short, the falls, if there must be any, will be less
expensive than for a motorbike! You just have to have the right reflex to keep your legs and
arms well inside.

The differentiating point is above all in terms of comfort with a
excellent point for the backrest and headrest which allow straight driving,
well wedged. On the other hand, in the event of cold, the passenger compartment causes eddies inside.,
that chills your head, more significantly than if you were on a moped
at the same speed! And you will no doubt notice that as soon as it gets cold, many
of drivers put on their little hats.

The BMW C1 ends up shining with its options: ABS, full luggage,
Carin navigation system connected to an on-board computer, cassette and CD player
to drive to music .. so many options that will delight the wealthy motorist.

Conclusion:

The BMW C1 will easily convince motorists to whom it offers
comfort, safety and excellent weather protection. We him
especially criticize its price, which at more than 40,000 francs brings it closer to the price of a
car than a traditional scooter. And last point in relation to a scooter or a
traditional motorcycle, the BMW C1 does not allow any passenger.
