After the S, R and GT, BMW Motorrad is exploring a new path for its K 1200: the R Sport. But why ? There is already a sports car in K 1200. It’s not that simple – in fact, this bike could be called a sport-GT in the BM world..
This K 1200 R Sport intends to promote fast driving with its half-fairing, while being less tiring thanks to its more raised riding position.. For this purpose, we took the handlebars of the model R. In summary, it would be the roadster to which we would have grafted a sport fork crown to increase the versatility of the K series. This element is also dug from the famous double bean, characteristic of the auto and motorcycle models of the propeller brand. An element of identity that had disappeared on the latest models of the manufacturer, such as the F 800 S & ST, the K 1200 S, GT and LT.
Mechanical side and part-cycle, it is K 1200 R pure juice. Same chassis with the latest generation paralever and the famous duolever (no fork but a double aluminum arm). And the same engine developing the power of 163 hp. For a sport-GT, it’s tough enough, and even very provocative on the part of BM.
As always, some options will quickly charm the future owner. The K 1200 R Sport can be fitted with the ESA handlebar suspension adjustment system, a RDC tire pressure controller, heated grips; and by making a small detour to the High Performance Parts department, we can get some carbon parts, such as an engine spoiler, a clutch housing, a front wheel cover or a seat cover.
This interesting model risks cannibalizing the K 1200 S somewhat. The R Sport gives it 4 hp and a complete fairing, but should be less exclusive. A great match in perspective.
