2004 Buell XB-12 R Firebolt

The Buell XB-9R at its release represented a superb concentrate of ideas emerging from the bubbling mind of Erik Buell. Adopting original technical solutions, innovative, and … surprising in view of the engine used (a Harley mill fortunately seriously reworked). This atypical motorcycle is now available in a 1200 cm3 version to offer more power and torque to the magical and lively chassis. Remember that the frame consists of two aluminum spars and acts as a fuel tank. The hunting angle is so closed that a Ducati could pass for a custom: only 21 ° and an ultra short wheelbase. The result – extraordinary liveliness. The engine at the base of the 1200 of the Harley Sportster but Buell increases it from 58 to 100 hp. The weak point of this engine lies above all in its lack of extension – the original mechanics were not designed for sport. -.

So long straights are not the new Buell’s favorite terrain. Regardless, she’s not made for that. By adopting a two-stage driving, winding on the first half of the operating range (approx. 6,000 rpm), attacking on the second, the XB-12 R is particularly fun. The enormous 375 mm perimeter brake disc is flawless on the road but lacks a bit of feeling on the circuit during heavy braking. The machine is bluffing of agility; the same cannot be said of the box. The excessively firm selection will quickly torture your left foot. The XB-12R is, so to speak, a 9 that would have gained watts and we come to dream of a machine equipped with a good V2 like the 1000 Suzuki or KTM. Don’t expect to find any practicality in it. Buells are designed like super-toys and claim their extreme identities – their use is very limited, but how easy it is !
