Honda patent suggests new crossover bike

With the oven-cylinder of the 650 class

The Honda shown in the drawings is without a doubt equipped with a four-cylinder in-line engine, which would be at least unusual for adventure bikes in this displacement class. The small Tracer and the F 900 XR, for example, roll with two cylinders, while the Tracer 900 is equipped with three cylinders. Kawasaki’s Versys 1000 and BMW’s S 1000 XR are powered by four-cylinder engines, but are in a different displacement class.

There are several reasons why a four-cylinder for adventure bikes has not been part of the common engine concept in this class: In-line four-cylinders are often larger than other engines with a similar displacement. Since adventure bikes are often designed to be narrow, a wide engine is more of an obstacle. In addition, in-line four-cylinder engines are optimally designed for higher speeds and have therefore been popular in the sporty segment so far. It still makes sense that Honda would like to expand its range of street models with the 650 in-line quad. Because the engine already exists, for example in the CB 650 R. It meets the current emission standards and would be ideally suited to tear miles on the road.
