Roadster with a new power boxer

BMW presented the new BMW R 1250 R at the EICMA in Milan, which will be launched in the 2019 model year with the newly developed boxer engine. Price: from 13,750 euros.

D.It all started with the BMW R 1250 GS. BMW is now letting other models follow, which will be launched in the 2019 model year with the new 1250 boxer. One of these new models is the BMW R 1250 R, which made its first public appearance at EICMA 2018 in Milan.

New engine delivers 136 hp

As with the GS, the new engine in the BMW R 1250 R develops 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and provides 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The new Shift Cam technology from BMW is also used in the R 1250 R, which varies the valve timing and valve lift as a function of load and engine speed by means of an axial shift in two stages. In addition to more power, the new boxer should now provide more power in the lower speed range. The exhaust system has also been redesigned. The gearbox and the anti-hopping clutch are now integrated in the motor housing. The power is transmitted via a multi-disc oil bath clutch.

The two driving modes "Rain" and "Road", ABS, a hill start aid and a stability control system called ASC are standard on board. The “Pro” driving mode is also available as an option, with dynamic traction control, improved ABS, hill start assist and dynamic brake assist. Sports handlebars are also available as special equipment for an even more active driving position.

Incidentally, the standard seat height is 820 mm. As an option, it can be adjusted to 760 mm, 790 mm or 840 mm. A floating 320 mm double disc brake and 4-piston radial brake calipers are used at the front. A single-disc brake with a diameter of 276 mm decelerates at the rear. For the tire dimensions, BMW opted for 120/70 ZR 17 (front) and 180/55 ZR 17 (rear). Ready to drive, it will weigh 239 kilograms. The tank holds 18 liters.

One basic color, two style variants

Unlike the other BMW models presented at EICMA with the new 1250 engine, the R 1250 R does not come with LED headlights as standard. This feature is also available as an option. Halogen headlights are used as standard on the Roadster. A 6.5-inch TFT display is also new. The front spoiler and the cockpit cover are also new on board.

The new BMW R 1250 R will be available from dealers in the color Black storm metallic in a basic variant and in the two style variants "Exclusive" (Pollux metallic matt) and "HP" (color combination: Light white / Racing blue metallic / Racing red). In addition, with the so-called "Option 719", another version with a metallic finish is in the starting blocks. As is usual with BMW, there are also plenty of accessories with which the new roadster can be individualized. BMW has not yet revealed how much the new R 1250 R will cost and when it will be available.
