With a range of new 125cc motorcycles wants us Derbi take part in the spectacular upswing of the Spanish motorcycle market. Almost 260,000 motorcycles and scooters over 50 cubic meters were registered on the Iberian Peninsula in 2006 ?? This means that the 40 million or so Spaniards are Europe’s busiest motorcycle buyers after the Italians. The boom was pouring money into manufacturers’ coffers and encouraging the development of new models that are also coming to Germany.

Urban two-wheeler beginners are the target group of the Derbi Cross City 125, which MOTORRAD was able to ride at its presentation in Madrid. Technically, it derives from the Senda 125 Baja, from which it took over the engine and elements of the frame construction. Still, the sleek, low Cross City is a completely different motorcycle. Their clear, restrained design and their high-quality, matt surfaces exude coolness and understatement, their wire-spoke wheels are historical references ?? modern and classic, stylish and practical at the same time.

When you set off, it quickly becomes clear that the drive technology is closer to tradition. The two-valve engine, which the large Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Zongshen produces on behalf of parent company Piaggio under a Honda license, requires the carburettor-mounted choke to start. The clutch and the five gears slip easily, the single cylinder lets the driver participate in his commitment through vibrations. Derbi names 110 km / h as the maximum speed, which seems to be achievable with a few attempts.

The everyday life of this 125cc is likely to take place mainly in an urban environment, and here the enormous maneuverability, the small turning circle and the low seat height of the light Cross City, which even less experienced pilots immediately instill confidence, are decisive. The suspension responds well, the brakes are clearly superior to the fairly manageable requirements in terms of weight and speed.

In addition to the lack of a luggage rack, long journeys are primarily due to the tightly padded and narrow seat bench at the front, which on the other hand makes it easier for short-legged people to have safe contact with the ground. Because there is no disguise, Lange also gets along well with the Cross City.

Those who are hungry for performance do not have to starve. The Funbike Terra 125 and the Mulhacen 125 should still be available in the summer? with water cooling, four valves and real 15 HP.

Endurance test fleet – swap exchange

From endurance to endurance test: A short while ago the Yamaha YZF-R1 was driven to fast laps as part of the Master Bike, and immediately afterwards it came ?? retracted well? as a new addition to the MOTORRAD long-term test fleet.
The Kawasaki ZZR 1400 has enriched this for over 25,000 kilometers. Shortly before this mark, a major swap was due. As part of an inspection and under warranty, the front brake discs were replaced due to brake judder, as were the pads and the damaged wheel bearings on the front wheel.
In comparison, a tire change is nothing special, but in the case of the Vespa GTS 250 it deserves a special mention. At 12,808 kilometers she was able to enjoy an inspection and a set of Pirelli GTS 23. And suddenly the shimmy, a slight flutter of the handlebars that usually occurs between 60 and 80 km / h, was a thing of the past.
What cannot be said about the oil of the Suzuki GSX-R 1000. It was just blown away by the wind blowing over the whole motorcycle. Apparently the valve cover gasket could no longer withstand the occurring temperatures or pressures at mileage 36254, so a small but annoying leak formed on the right side of the engine. Not for the first time. A Suzuki workshop is currently investigating the cause of the oil incontinence.
Last but not least, the Triumph Daytona 675 announces that it is now really beautiful again. Because the clear coat of the gold-colored paint had peeled off over a large area, the 675 was given a new cladding at mileage 22911. Ras
