Harley goes Europe

Because America is getting too small for Harley? and Harley too fast for American country: with Porsche power and Brembo brakes, the VRSCR Street Rod sets course for the old world.

It’s about nothing less than a new dimension in motorcycling: Harley-Davidson VRSCR Street Rod. Feels like 2.70 meters wheelbase. Real 295 kilograms with a full tank. It feels like being pulled onto the asphalt by the concentrated power of a 17,000 watt vacuum cleaner.
Narrow handlebars, buxom waist, “completely freestyle” seating position ?? somewhere between sporty and fat-legged. In any case, never been there. And then
this fat 120 hp, from two powerful pots with a total capacity of 1131 cubic meters: full-fledged power that slaps the visor against your nose with the turn of your fist.
Visor, yes. Best mirrored. Open face helmet and fringes are on the S.treet rod as hip as ballet shoes on a bulldozer.
Harley’s newcomer: a heating iron ?? “Born on the track”. His destination:
Europe. “The all American company” on the wrong track. Even more than new driving-
feelings, this is about extended hunting grounds. The search for sales opportunities far from speed-limited highways and gray-bearded country road folklore. Because their own ranks are crammed with Harleys, the USA jam-packed with them. Almost 50 percent of the market share borders on indecent and around 245,000 new registrations per year. Much more is not possible.
“Old Europe”, however, could still take a lot from Milwaukee, here the Americans bob around at a shallow seven or eight percent. Last year only sold 22,636 machines, 2140 of which 117 hp V-Rods.
V-Rod: the anti-Harley. We remember the outcry of the Puritans when Willi G. Davidson let the cat out of the bag and the “Power Cruiser” from the stack in July 2001. “This is the end
of the world, ”they roared: water instead of
Air cooling, »Blasphemy!«, Four instead of two valves, »Treason!«, Wet instead of dry sump lubrication ?? without words. Most of all, but worst of all, it hurt
Straddle of the cylinder angle: From 45 to
Obscene 60 degrees derailed, it stood for the sell-out of all traditions.
“Revolution Engine” ?? the name of the high-revving engine was program. The fact that Porsche / Weissach was behind the development of the short-stroke engine angered the loyal H. D. followers even more.
In “Gods own country” the V-Rod should pay bitterly for it. While Europe is against a tightened version of the VRSCA-
genetically feverish.
So now VRSCR Street Rod. Live from San Diego. And so that it is said at least once before it is forgotten again: VRSCR stands for “V-Twin Racing Street Custom Roadster”. There really is everything in there. The main result is pressure. Unscented. High proof. Destroying asphalt.
Of course there will be people who say that it is not enough. There are always people like that ?? usually they have other problems as well. With their brats, their hairline or their belly. So you will say that the new Harley disappointed them in terms of printing, especially from below. You should listen to these people because they need attention, you shouldn’t trust them.
In fact, the two-cylinder mimes the rather harmless breeder up to around 4000 tours. But then the mood changes completely, the key drifts into
Aggressive, and from then on even America seemed far too small for the greed with which the Street Rod plastered its environment.
Completely paved with the road, it polishes towards its top performance at 8250 rpm, while you have your hands full not to be swept out of the saddle without will. One unfocused moment and the thing would have been over: abandoned Street Rod is milling through California, the suspected driver flutters in the opposite direction.
It is with relief that you take note of the rev limiter, which saves you from getting even faster at 9000 rpm. In third gear it grips around 170 things, in fourth around 200? whoever wants to wring the fifth.
The street version owes its three horsepower lead over the 221 km / h V-Rod to the new “straight-shot dual silencers”. A nice bonus that you don’t say no to, because PS always means prestige.
The modes are really profitable-
fications on the chassis. First and foremost, quite banal, the positioning of the footrests. These things are finally sitting where they are
belong: directly below, not a meter in front of you. So pretty much at the height where the V-Rod carries its passenger pegs.
In the past, Harley would have bluntly proclaimed a new model after such a transplant. Today you find out in a subordinate clause that the entire chassis has been dynamized around the footrests: steeper steering head-
angle, less caster, slightly shorter
Wheelbase. Combined with longer suspension travel and a frame lifted at the hips, this supposedly adds eight degrees of lean angle. Soil samples on the winding mountain roads behind San Diego confirm this value. And the athletic demands of the Street Rod.
With the vehemence of a hammer thrower, the speed boulder lays down in curves: fully assembled, wildly determined ?? and once on course, hardly distracting. Spontaneous changes of direction are not exactly his thing. To call it sluggish would be a lie. A slightly wider handlebar and two or three burnouts against the garage wall could help, so that the wheelbase shrinks even further and the steering head is a few degrees steeper.
Would be ?? but a shame about the beautiful new fork. Upside down! And from Showa
fine tuned. So tight that you can
the “all new Brembo four piston brakes” can use in all their glory. There has never been such a braking effect with Harley? wasn’t really necessary either. Because the signs rarely pointed to a storm.
That should change now. With the Street Rod, Harley enters the competition for sporting recognition. And 16,155 euros is a first threat.
