The four-stroke engine is also finding its way into trials because of the stricter exhaust emission limits. Honda is here with the Mon-
tesa Cota 4RT Pioneers whose engine is based on that of the Crosser CRF 250 R.. For the much more tame trial machine, however, a simpler cylinder head was designed. The four valves are controlled by a camshaft, the two cams of which operate the valves via fork rocker arms. Nothing unconventional. A technical highlight, on the other hand, is the electronic injection system, which works completely without a battery. A kick occurs
the kick starter is enough to build up enough voltage in milliseconds, to activate the fuel pump and to control the injection. Honda has already used a similar engine management system for the »Zoomer« scooter.
The first turn of the throttle makes the Honda engine bark greedily. The single-cylinder reacts directly and without delay, it is not inferior to the carburettor-equipped two-stroke competition. The first three courses are designed for section operation and appear to be quite short at first. You can tell that this is not the case when you have internalized the power delivery of the four-stroke engine. From idle speed-
number is initially not pushing the 4RT quite as forcefully as its predecessor 315R. The torque remains in contrast
compared to the two-stroke, the four-stroke almost constant over a large part of the speed range One and the same aisle can remain engaged from the tightest of hairpin bends to long driveways and high steps.
The weight of the four-stroke engine, which is three kilograms heavier, could not be fully compensated for by the lighter chassis. The Cota 4RT can be moved more playfully than the 315R, which is due to the shorter wheelbase and the favorable center of gravity. Compared to the current two-stroke competition, however, slight handling disadvantages are noticeable due to the four-stroke’s larger rotating masses. The positive side: The gyroscopic forces stabilize the motorcycle, which results in a very good one
Makes balance noticeable.
The injection works so perfectly under all conditions that you don’t even notice it at first. It starts at the start, for neither one

the driver depends entirely on him-

or there is no longer too lean. Even

was common. The Cota 4RT is also not familiar with blue haze or leaking fuel from the float chamber. The low consumption is also up-to-date, the 2.1 liter tank capacity is sufficient for a casual day’s workout. No matter which
Situation one also provokes to the one-
spritzung to ask for a point of criticism, she masters everything with flying colors. No need to change the nozzle, even cleaning the carburetor remains with you Montesa Cota 4RT pilot saves.
So the four-stroke Cota does not set
only new accents in terms of sound, but convinces with easy handling and
perfect workmanship. In addition, with the perfectly tuned single-cylinder, Honda proves that injection systems will soon be conceivable even for crossers.
