Yamaha has it TDM 900 A retrofitted. Not only with the additional A in the model name, but also with the corresponding ABS. This is joined by the 2005-
Model also comes with a case system as standard. If you are wondering whether you want ABS and a case system at all, you should take a look at the price. Yamaha For the new TDM, at 9830 euros, it costs just 240 euros more than for its predecessor. The decision should be easy.
As is well known, there is no arguing about the appearance, but about the TDM’s luggage system. On the one hand you need for the suitcase? although part of the standard equipment? an extra key, and on the other hand, the optics suffer from the far-
loading parts. Even without a case, the Yamaha is not necessarily one of the graceful motorcycles, but at least it has a narrow butt. That changes suddenly with the pieces of luggage. This means that the rear measures an impressive 105 centimeters. So caution is advised if you want to meander through narrow streets in a traffic jam.
In the case of ABS, there is no interest in the external appearance, the function alone is important here. In this regard, the TDM’s braking system cannot fully convince. Although it reliably prevents the wheels from locking, this happens quite roughly. If the brakes are brutally applied at high speed, the ABS reduces the brake pressure at intervals that are too long. This leaves the feeling that valuable meters are covered without delay.
The subjective impression is confirmed by the brake-
Measurement in which the focus was not on the average deceleration, but on the control behavior of the anti-lock braking system. The curve (see below) clearly shows that in the event of an emergency stop
the system with long control intervals at the blocking limit
is working. Nevertheless, there is no question that the Yamaha-TDM-ABS provides a significant plus in safety, even if other systems work better.
If the brake pressure on the Yamaha all-rounder is slowly built up to the blocking limit, the ABS intervenes so late that
the TDM even slightly lifts the rear wheel. Which in turn causes a slight but easily controllable wagging of the stern. Apart from that, the chassis is foolproof. With the hard and slightly underdamped spring elements, the TDM is not a nimble curve predator, but a pleasant travel vehicle with a comfortable seating position.
The two-cylinder inspires with a great power development, and the nominal 86 hp are enough for the brisk country-
road tour anyway. As if pulled on a rubber band, the in-line twin accelerates the 900s, which weigh 248 kilograms with a full tank, out of the corners. No wonder, 70 Newton meters pull the chain from 3000 revolutions.
And so the 2005 TDM 900 A is a tempting offer despite the slight weaknesses with the additional equipment and the low surcharge. Whom the equipment
is still too lean, you can find additional accessories such as the recommended main stand in the accessories list
for 235 euros, the top case for 415 euros or the warming heated grips for 299 euros. gst
