Novelty: Swiss knife on two wheels

With the Multistrada 1200 S, Ducati combines the in-house super sports genes with unbelievable versatility. At the push of a button, the 150 hp bike becomes a sportsman, Tourer, City-Bike or Enduro.

Possible makes the transformation a variety of electronic helper, which Ducati defines as a "riding fashion concept". The high-tech electronics is already noticeable before the engine start: instead of an ignition key, a keycard is carried at itself, started without procedure with a pressure on the starter button. At the touch of a button on the left handle end adjustable, can be selected between four different set-ups, which can be retrieved when needed while driving.
For the first section by inhabited area, it makes sense to choose the mode "Urban", by distinguishing between two operation or solo journey, the spring preload is given the loading state. The four modes "Sport", "Touring", "Urban" and "Enduro" differ from various engine and suspension settings, the control stage of traction control (DTC) and the response of the ABS.

In the site "only" 100 hp

Through the ride-by-wire technology, in which gas grip movements are transmitted electronically to the throttle valves, three different engine programming are available. Users from the turn signal switch, the 1198 Dermo-Twin stands in sport mode in full bloom with 150 hp at 9250 revolutions and spontaneous gas acceptance. At "Touring" there is also the full performance, but a tammer characteristic. In Enduro and Urban mode, the large V2 aggregate still speaks gentle, the maximum power is cropped to 100 hp. In fact, however, the system regulates much finer, because it still uses the respective speed, the gear engaged and the throttle grip position to measure ignition and injection.
Regardless of the selected program, the new Testastretta 11-degree engine, as it is officially called, is clearly more civilized than in the 1198 super sports car or in the Streetfighter. Not quite ready to perform below 3000 rpm, the 90-degree V2 engine impresses with flawless running and homogeneous pressure, especially in the middle of the speed range. The new, less powerful wet clutch also contributes to the feeling of well-being in the tightly padded but not uncomfortable driver’s seat. The wide handlebars, which are slightly cranked upwards, require a slight forward lean, while the position of the pegs ensures a comfortable knee angle.

High seating position

Although the 85 centimeter seat height is not insignificant, but most multistrada pilots are likely to achieve the ground safely with both legs. If necessary, there is a low-leaning set by 2.50 centimeters. Passenger are looking forward to an equally upholstered seat and stable handles, on which a topcase can be mounted. Surprising for a Ducati, the view into the rearview mirrors does not cause any actions. Not quite perfect protects the adjustable slice in front of the wind, but at least the upper body shows against unpleasant wind pressure.
The small windscreen and the raven-taby extension under double headlights give the Multistrada a my own face – very different than the previous Ducati models. Aggressive and compact in look and style, she remains unmistakably a Ducati, but the sleek tail and the harmonious side suitcases and the long spring trails make the 1200s unique.
At the Multistrada 1200 S Touring with standard heating handles and main stands, the also available side suitcases are also enjoyed with good jam volume and easy handling; Stayed Do not leave any ugly holes. However, the containers do not appear to be of particularly high quality at first glance. In addition, the long arm of the main stand may irritate some drivers’ feet. The off-road additions, such as the small aluminum engine guard, are not really capable of rough terrain, and LED turn signals integrated into the hand guards are not a good idea in the event of inevitable falls. Tour riders, meanwhile, can look forward to two on-board sockets.

Sportier than the touring competition

The special thing about the Multistrada is the sporty touch that comes with touring with the Ducati. Other all-rounders are fast, agile and comfortable, but the adrenaline-pumping pace makes the difference – and the possibilities offered by the electronic Riding Mode concept. The 150 pounding horses with a dry weight of only 189 kilograms Ducati puts the reins with the well-functioning traction control (DTC) output of the curve. For a reliable delay, the Bosch Brembo-ABS brake system ensures that, even if they seem to intervene regulate and not so strongly pulsed in levers. For train without remorse, the Ducati Electronic suspension (DES), the electronically adjustable Ohlins chassis, ensures great ride comfort while at the same time ensuring sportive directness.
The Multistrada is offered in two variants: as standard with ABS, traction control and less high-quality spring elements for 14 990 euros and as multistrada 1200 s, from which there are the touring variant described here and a sports version, which is characterized by numerous weight-saving carbon fiber Shares distinguishes. But no matter what characteristic, the Multistrada 1200 links thanks to the variety of technical innovations, the performance potential of a sports motorcycle with the light controlability and the large application potential of a touring all-rounder.

  1. More versatility is currently not available
A versatile motorcycle as the Multistrada 1200 is currently not available. 150ps … with less than 200kg weight, abs and traction control. Have the motorcycle seen on the Dortmund fair and quickly exchange my current motorcycle against the Multistrada.

  2. Who something sporty than the touring competition
Seek, should rather buy the KTM 990 SMT. More excitement, games and fun is currently hardly possible.

  3. for 60.000 euros …
something neatly sewn together comes onto the plate. Confederate’s Hellcat F131. My GPz 1100 dfi was a nice toy for many years, but the rate of crazy people on the road has multiplied disproportionately in the last two decades. Top speed on German roads no longer appeals to me.

  4. envy of the have-nots
Presumably Krylov has never owned a GS, let alone ridden it!

  5. Nothing with plan and propertyless…
The test drive on the GS1100 was ok, even if I could have done without the strangely indifferent Telelever handling. Nevertheless, you have to be very attached to the form-follows-function idea in order to find this tangle of cables, plugs and lines aesthetic. Ducati can do it better: You see only the beautiful 1000 Sport Classic….

  6. Fiat Multipla on two wheels
The first Fiat Multipla was a similarly practical vehicle, but is still considered one of the ugliest cars ever made. Now the Italians have done it again, but only with two wheels! The Germans are probably to blame, and they can prove with the sales figures for the BMW GS that they will buy any motorcycle, no matter how ugly, if only they can "practical" is.

  7. 2 cylinder
Ducati has been kidding customers for years. For the price, which is already completely overpriced, there is a bitchy, high-maintenance 2-cylinder engine. Pay 60.000 € there is a 4-cylinder racing engine that is really great.
