Ducati 996 MONSTER S4R 2006

Menus

Ten years ago, the monster 900 was shaking up the world of roadsters. Recently, a more thunderous version made the powder speak: the S4, a monster at the heart of 916, the very famous hypersport. Today, we inflate the pecs even more and we take out the fangs. Here is a monster with the mill of the 996, you know, that of Bostrom and Fogarty. Aesthetically, we immediately notice the magnificent swingarm, the same as the 900 MHe, the two pots raised and glued to each other, but also unfortunately, the ugly catalyst. The huge twin protrudes everywhere and promises big. Launched with enthusiasm on the winding roads of Italy, the S4 R is maneuverable and lively like its little sisters, that is to say particularly vigorous.

However, it could show more stability once entered on a curve. A little confusing for a Ducat ‘but the beast,’ is not vicious. Thanks to its twin-cylinder engine full of torque and particularly virulent once in the turns, the S4 R leaps from turn to turn. to calm its enthusiasm, it is equipped with a very efficient Brembo set and much more progressive than on the monster 1000. Slightly tilted forward, the driving position offers an obvious grip but sprinkled with the charm of the Italian – although the controls have become smoother, the hydraulic clutch is still just as hard. The road is becoming less tortuous, the S4 R reveals its reach and especially its rage once it is pushed to the top of the tachometer, with much more nastiness than the sister S4. The finish of the Italian is nothing exceptional but the spirit is not there. Much more exhilarating than a sports car (for an almost identical price), little suited to everyday life, the S4 R is above all a sulphurous distributor of adrenaline..
