Ducati 996 SPS 2001

Menus

In motorcycle production, the 996 is a machine apart, sumptuous, physical, and character. This SPS version is the culmination of that – in fact, it’s almost a racing machine. The large twin-injected V-twin develops 123 horsepower. And Ducati horses, you have to hold them more than any other. The camshafts differ with a more incisive profile, the box benefits from a “competition” staging, the brakes are signed Brembo (floating cast iron discs), and the suspensions are hyper-efficient; the rear element is an Ohlins; and the 1999 SHowa fork is replaced by an Ohlins. This helps to justify the poisoned price (150,000 francs), and with carbon in all the corners, it goes a little better. All this is forgotten while galloping with the beautiful. With the 996 SPS, it’s pure happiness: the big twin desmo grows badly with the rage of a destructive couple, and the intense and enjoyable vibrations of Italian mechanics. The chassis, faithful to Ducati, is beyond reproach. With all that, the SPS is one of the best sports around. A machine of desire and pleasure for experienced and wealthy pilots. But does the dream have a price ?
