A wetsuit for extreme cold with Thermolite lining
Hottest set ever designed by Furygan; jacket at 420 € and pants at 269 €
Furygan announces it clearly: the jacket and the Cold Master pants are the hottest set they have ever produced ! To do this, the jacket is built in triple polyester (for excellent abrasion resistance) while inside, the "Furygan Skin Project" lining also has the mission of resisting abrasion and tears. . With the same safety objective, CE approved D3O protectors are present on the elbows and shoulders. This is for safety. For the cold, the Furygan Cold Master is equipped with a removable Thermolite liner, which features aluminum inserts on the torso as well as windproof inserts. This lining has a "winter flap", an element fixed by snaps and which can be deployed on the chest, in order to have an additional layer of warmth. The pants are also equipped with this Thermolite lining, with aluminum inserts on the thighs. All these technologies come from MotionLab, Furygan’s R&D center.
Designed for the cold, this set is no less versatile. Thus, the "F.C.S" system makes it possible to equip these elements with other types of linings and to combine them with other products in the Furygan range. However, together they offer the best protection against the cold. And it is in the perspective of this use that we therefore asked the French manufacturer to entrust us with a set of jacket and pants for testing..
A good quality of presentation and finish
The first impression is more than positive, since the Cold Master jacket presents itself well: each yoke is worked, whether by the presence of adjustments, pockets, reflective inserts. In the same vein, the alliance of materials, between textile, stretch, logos in foam coating, it is clear that this jacket required a lot of attention..
It slips on easily and closes with a large zip, very flexible in use. In the lower part, at the level of the abdomen, the "ski" system consists of a flap, closing with a press-stud and preventing air from rising through the inside of the jacket. Clever. The same feeling prevails for the pants, pleasant to the touch, easy to put on and to close thanks to the waist tightening on 3 levels. Its straight cut makes it particularly elegant. Jacket and pants can be attached with a zip.
Lots of pockets, but a few practicalities to tweak…
In use, we continue to appreciate some details: the 3 sleeve tightening locations, the high and long collar, whose tongue is fixed on a micrometric adjustment system, for a perfect fit, or the small pocket. for a credit card or toll ticket, located on the left forearm. Ditto for the two small ventilation closures located at the shoulders, when the Siberian high loses intensity..
That being said, even if the pockets are numerous on the jacket (there are 8, including 3 internal), those which are present on the outside are of a fairly contained dimension. A choice probably dictated by the desire to keep a "fit" jacket that does not float too much in the wind. Per account, the pants have only one pocket. A second would have been useful.
In addition, I found that the mouth of the sleeves at the wrists was quite small. This will bring discomfort to wearers of the 48mm Breitling Navitimer, although it will rarely happen. However, this will be more annoying if you want to place the glove cuff inside, or even if you are dealing with particularly thick heated gloves in this place, because of the batteries. So check the compatibility with your gloves before purchase..
The Cold Master set was used for a few days, in a winter period. A stretch of road in 4 ° C did not allow us to pinpoint the limits and the set was obviously very warm, while I only had cotton underwear and a small sweater underneath. . A heavy downpour demonstrated their tightness.
In short, the context means that for the moment, this Furygan Cold Master set has not yet been able to demonstrate its full potential. As a result, a winter outing with night driving in the Morvan between Avalon and Château-Chinon is scheduled for the beginning of February.
