Motorcycle dream: on the Fat Boy through California

The word evil shoots through my head. Just a few meters outside the parking garage it becomes clear that cruising is not enough for this beast of steel – I have to tame it somehow. The extremely hard clutch feels like sore muscles in your forearm. If you turn the throttle, the exhaust roars, the wide tank rears up and the handlebars suddenly serve to hold you tight. The CVO version of the Fat Boy resembles a big cat on the hunt, always ready for the big leap forward.

Conclusion: Riding a Harley-Davidson is fun, but not exactly cheap. A Fat Boy a day costs around $180 a day, for example at motorbike rentals www.eaglerider.com to drive the US West Coast on your own or in a guided tour.

  1. falling wages and rising license costs
….this is the reality for many youngsters. In addition, mobility for the job – … ….this is the reality for many youngsters. In addition, mobility is required for the job – so a car is necessary. Many can no longer afford the luxury of a motorcycle and the equally expensive A driving license. Perhaps the leaders of the group will also think about it when wages are constantly being cut – who is going to buy the products then? ?

  2. Better….
..if not everyone can afford such a piece of gold! I ride two motorcycles. A naked bike from Japan with 184 hp and a FXDF Fat Bob with 103 cui. Both are a special motorcycle feeling, but each in its own way. and…..with the Harley I miss 2/3 of all other motorcyclists without any particular problems. Funny to read the bias of some here.

  3. Lots of prejudice, little truth
When I read through the comments here, I have to realize that many here have obviously heard of a Harley, but very few have ridden one or dealt with the technology. Engines are now designed by Porsche, brakes by Brembo, etc. A Ducati isn’t cheaper either. There are definitely cheaper cruisers out there, but not better ones.

  4. Harley
I’d rather buy a beach cruiser bike, it’s just as bad to ride, but it’s cheaper to buy and maintain. I can imitate the engine sound well with my voice (when I feel unobserved and no one is looking) .

  5. Harley-Davidson
…..Oh well. Old technology, one can argue about that. One "HOYASUKA" of the latest model is already in the next season "old". Rather, overpriced, inferior accessories, made in Taiwan, are annoying. If someone comes up with the idea of beautifying their Harley, then they can also buy the accessories catalogue, well, yes…..

  6. Harley is a cult from the 60’s and 70’s
The cult fans are also from this period and age with their machines. The former rebels are now the establishment themselves and the younger generations are therefore looking for other symbols of identification. Technically, the Harleys are just as backward as the US cars. Some evoke tradition, while others prefer to look for something contemporary and form the majority.

  7. Yes …
it is gradually coming to an end with the nostalgia and the associated base of gentlemen who are already getting on in years. A motorcycle with yesterday’s technology and at inflated prices. Today’s market only wants it in sharply declining numbers, there are decidedly better ones out of Japan and Europe.

  8. Harley
You’re probably right, there are better motorcycles out there, with better technology and all the bells and whistles. But there aren’t any better " choppers " than Harley’s and that’s it.

  9. It would be a shame if it came to that !
don’t understand the many negative comments here, sounds like envy! The name HD and the robust V2 Vibration’s still promise a certain feeling.Since 2 months. I am (45) the owner of a Harley, motorized since 15.year.My son (22) is already saving for the same Harley.A European Harley was developed with the XR1200x. Don’t lump all Harley dealers together!

  10. Those rolling piles of iron
may still have their raison d’être in the USA, where it usually goes straight ahead for kilometers (miles). On Germany’s winding roads, Harleys are just rolling traffic obstacles for most motorcyclists, which are best left behind as quickly as possible.

  11. Fashion hype that passes!
Nothing against sworn Harley drivers, but what has been happening in recent years has been fashion hype. Who buys (not necessarily drove) a Harley just because it belonged to it and was cool. That’s over now. In addition, motorcycling is made very difficult for the youngsters (driving license costs, income, etc.).
