Harley-Davidson Iron 1200 and Forty-Eight Special

New Sportster models for 2018

For the 2018 season, Harley-Davidson is adding the new Iron 1200 and Forty-Eight Special to the Sportster family.

Added for the 2018 season Harley-Davidson is adding the new Iron 1200 and Forty-Eight Special types to the Sportster family. The new models combine a custom look with the Sportster platform and the 1200 Evolution V-Twin, which generates 67 hp and 96 Nm of torque.

Black dominates the iron

Both machines feature new tank graphics that combine stripes with typography and colors that Harley-Davidson used in the 1970s.

The Iron 1200 (XL 1200NS) comes with a solo seat, a matt black mini ape handlebar and a small headlight cover. In addition, almost the entire engine is black, only the pushrod tubes and the tappet blocks are chrome-plated. The machine rolls on black 9-spoke wheels (19 inches at the front and 16 inches at the rear). Toothed belt guard and belt pulley are also coated in black.

The new Iron 1200 is available in Vivid Black, Twisted Cherry or Billiard White, and its headlamp covers always wear Vivid Black. Harley names the price 10,955 euros plus 450 euros for ancillary costs.

Fat tires, slim tank on the Special

The new Forty-Eight Special (XL 1200XS) has a 130 mm tire at the front and a 49-millimeter fork on forged light alloy fork bridges. A glossy black Tallboy handlebar sits on top of it, with a 7.9 liter peanut tank behind it. The tank is available in three colors: Vivid Black, Wicked Red and Billiard White.

The engine is wrapped in black in the head and cylinder area, while numerous chrome-plated components are used in the basement. A chrome layer decorates the primary, inspection and clutch covers. The exhaust system and its heat shields are also chrome-plated. The lower rocker boxes, the pushrod tubes and the tappet blocks also carry chrome. This creates an attractive contrast to the black cylinders, which emphasizes the shape of the V-Twin. The black 16-inch cast light alloy wheels with nine double spokes provide a further contrast.

The Forty-Eight Special is available from 12,195 euros plus 450 euros for ancillary costs.

Both new Sportster models should be available from the end of April 2018. In the picture gallery above there are all other Harley bikes offered in the 2018 model year.
