Honda CBR 250 R 2011

Yes, then yes! It’s nice to see that it’s not just for hypersports with hundreds of horses doped with crazy electronics. Small engines are bringing it back to the forefront, and not just the 125.
Rare, little in vogue, the 2 and a half displacement owes its salvation only to the start of certain charismatic trails such as the KLX 250 and the WR 250. In the sport segment, the Kawasaki 250 Ninja will no longer play alone in its niche – the new small CBR comes to shake the barnyard with a lot of arguments and a design that does not lack dog. Beware of the 125s, push the sporty ones, here is a new Honda branded trublione with the unequivocal surname: CBR 250 R.

Silhouette ? Known, but surprising. A real little VFR! The headlight, the fairing panels, the pot, the rear frame: everything is modeled on the big sport-GT V4. Same type of separation between the shoe and the sides, same gutters on the edges of the lighthouse, but a lighter silhouette, a slender attitude with a certain aplomb – this CBR has a good face.

The world’s leading manufacturer did not push the mimicry so far as to install a 4-cylinder V-shaped engine, but nonetheless split a new 249cc single-cylinder. Clean, modern, it has all the technology one would expect from it: double ACT, 4 valves, liquid cooling, 38mm PGM-FI injection and catalyst. By favoring the mono architecture, this 250 abandons the pre-arrangement at high revs to ensure more punch and character at mid-revs, an area where the mono has no lesson to be learned. With 26 horses in the vilo, this 250 is the dream machine for the city and the extras. This trunk is very appreciable that the legal limit of 125 (approx. 15 hp), allows greater horizons, generates less agony if a passenger sits on board, and allows you to stay away from much more. of bikes when it comes to having a little fun. Okay, little problem, license B is not enough to ride this machine – pink paper scratched with A required.
Logically more powerful than the mono of the CBR 125 (2 times more cm3 in the block), it does not say that this mill is more greedy. Honda promises us 27 km of autonomy with…. just one liter of fuel. Not bad as a drink; less than 4 liters per 100. Since the time we have all been careful with the pump, there is something to think about.

With 162 kilograms all wet, the CBR 250 is not particularly light. The not too thick profile of these tires will largely compensate in terms of agility. The chassis is placed in the standard, with a diamond-type steel frame, a 37 mm fork, a 296 mm brake disc associated with…. Wow; 2 seconds ?!? What is this sensor? Is it that ? But yes, you can have ABS as an option on this little CBR. A first in this displacement, and the realization of Honda’s desire to offer this safety equipment on all its models. Even better: the C-ABS version can be added to this machine, namely the combined sport anti-lock system developed for the CBR 600 and 1000 RR. But will this be possible in our regions? Commercially, it risks putting a big blow at the price of the CBR.

Are we witnessing a comeback of quarter-liters? Don’t rush. But this sportswoman from the towns has much more to do with a tarmo. Above all, it is much more versatile and suitable than the other CBRs, circuit machines just approved for the road. Honda has made great efforts on the price and this 250 CBR costs less than 4000 euros, only 500 euros more than the 125 for twice the displacement, which immediately makes it much more accessible than its direct competitor, the Kawasaki Ninja 250 R. Enough to file the claws of the little Ninja: the green sends 33 horsepower, loads 8 kilos less and a cylinder more. This doubling of the available offer could well put a spotlight on the category.
