28,000 motorcycles with false reflectors

28,528 Hondas have to go back to the workshops in the USA. Reason: the rear reflector reflects too weakly. The part is exchanged.

Since January 2020, Honda has installed a new reflector on thirteen different motorcycle models. A review of these reflectors by the Korean authorities showed that the new components reflect too little. A check by Honda and the supplier from India showed: A small change in the manufacturing process with a shorter injection time of the plastic reduces the reflection performance. The American traffic safety authority NHTSA has therefore ordered the recall for a total of 28,528 motorcycles from model years 2020 and 2021. The part must be replaced on all machines. At the same time, Honda has ordered a sale of the affected models – new or used – and is informing the owners. MOTORRAD asks Honda Germany whether this recall is limited to the USA or whether all reflectors have to be replaced worldwide. Yamaha also had to carry out a recall for the same reason in autumn 2020.

13 models and 28,000 machines affected

The recalled 13 models from Honda USA add up to 28,528 units and range from the 125cc Super Cub, Monkey and Groms to the 300 and 500cc models of the CMX Rebel and CBR to the 650cc four-cylinder. The 250 and 300 versions of the Honda CRF L are also affected.
