We discover the motorcycle in several ways. Cross, circuit, road, collection … But often, it starts with a poster on the wall or books lying around. Between the bike, the 125 and MotoGP, the offers are jostling and when the right to ride a big cube finally arrives, dreams must give way to reality. This may be less bitter than it seems. If the CB 500 took as much fun as the utility number of bikers, it now wants more fun. Within its engine, we can guess the reason, the task, the A2 license almost engraved in the bowels. All this would almost evaporate with this silhouette that 2016 offers him.

The CB 500: basic motorcycle but universally endearing in its early days, more placid in its 2004 redesign, rebellious in its 2013 revival, and daring in this new chapter. Almost radical in its style. More refined, incisive, the machine threatens. With a croup that would not deny a CBR, a headlight cut with a scalpel and lightened shoulders which clearly release the engine, the CB 500 could almost pass for a streetfighter. Front and rear lighting benefit from the services of LEDs. Valuable, and almost misleading. Because under the clothes, we find exactly the same mechanics and techniques as the old version.
Diamond-type steel frame, 41 mm fork, 192 kilos, 320 mm front and 240 mm rear brake discs, ABS, briefly for the chassis. The engine is renewed with the same mission and the same technological package. For this twin, everything seems acquired from the start: to be easy and suitable in all circumstances for holders of a young license. 48 horses or 35 kW are there to go about the city with a laugh. Question feelings, it will be fair. Let’s not be too greedy; its level of enthusiasm is between the CBF 125 and the CB 650. Honda has all the same raised the level of driving requirements somewhat with some improvements. The gearbox selection system has been revised for more smoothness. The exhaust gains in compactness, weight (- 2 kg) and look. The fork can now be preloaded while the brake lever also gains an adjustment, with 5 possibilities for spacing.

Looks like this CB 500 F wants to stay outside longer. Autonomy gains with 1 liter more capacity in the tank. In contrast, the saddle loses something: 5 mm in height, to settle at 785 mm. And these small details, such as certain parts of the bronze-colored engine, the acid colors or the renewal of the petal brake discs, add to the chic side of the bike. In his vision, it is now harder to believe in his economic vocation. When driving, we will find a daily companion, less seductive in its dynamic performance but sufficient to satisfy the city dweller and the discoverer of medium-displacement.
