2018 Honda CB 650 F

Menus

In the middle of the incisive roadsters that are the MT-09, Street Triple and other Z, the Honda CB 650 has a place a little apart. When all the manufacturers chose edgy and hectic machines, the world No. 1 took the opposite view. The CB is a versatile motorcycle, almost calm, easy, not lazy but not excited. Too smooth to get the adrenaline pumping, yet ready for any task of the day. For 2017, it must, like so many others, comply with the Euro4 standard. Even if it means reviewing the mechanics, you might as well take the opportunity to review the silhouette. And Honda obviously wants to give him some sex appeal.

And she believes it. This CB 650 F takes on the facies of a little brawler. With more compact sidewalls and a Patlabor-style face, it appears smaller and meaner. Almost too small … it looks like a CB 500 F which would have eaten a 4-cylinder. Style side, it is noticeable. And on the technical side, it’s moving towards the rare ?

Not too much but enough for it to be noticed. The 4-cylinder is gaining power. With optimized intake and exhaust, the CB 650 goes from 87 to 91 horsepower. Gradually, its values approach the guns of the segment and the late Hornet. Obviously, Honda wants to keep its line of conduct and preserve the leitmotifs of the CB. How were his horses obtained? Shorter intake ducts, an air box that breathes better, a muffler with a dual-channel structure instead of 3 and a larger throttle outlet. The couple wins too, with a maximum of 6.4 mkg.
To optimize acceleration, the gearbox has also been retouched. The ratios of the second to the fifth are tightened. The new CB would thus gain 6 meters compared to the old one on the 400 m launched at 60 km / h.

From the swingarm to the brake discs, the new CB 650 F has almost the same specifications as the previous version. Its diamond-like steel frame is now accompanied by a new 41mm Double-valve Showa fork. More comfort and improved behavior. For the brakes, the 2-piston Nissin calipers are modified, biting 320mm petal discs at the front – For the rear, a 240mm disc and a piston for the caliper.

A little more watts, a little more rigor, and a little more pugnacity to offer the pilot. The CB 650 tilts it slightly to the front with a flatter handlebar mounted on silentblocs. The feet will touch the ground more easily when stationary because the saddle is thinner in the center.
No risk taking for this Honda CB 650 F. Its dressing makes it more dapper, more seductive, hiding underwear wiser than its silhouette. A bit like your work colleague who shows up every morning in a sexy suit, and proves to be impeccable efficiency at work but you should not count on a show in the meeting room.
