She has been traveling the roads for 10 years … and fortunately, it continues! Faced with the debauchery of displacement on the side of customs, and the boundless radicalization of hyper-powerful sports cars, it’s good to see that a manufacturer cares about its mid-range – where we all started.. Thus, the famous CB 500 evolves on several points: the chassis is now similar to that inducted by the Hornet, a sort of “spinal column” from which the engine is suspended. This one is still a twin cylinder but the catalyst makes it lose 4 hp and a pinch of torque. Too bad, especially since the little one is not entitled to the diets of her sports sisters: + 13 kg, madam. Will a new ignition map favoring torque be enough to compensate for this power deficit? The suspensions also change with a beefier fork and a single rear shock absorber (an HMAS fixed directly on the swingarm, without links) which advantageously replaces the 2 previous combined. The saddle goes down a little, to 770 mm, the tires become radial and widen to 120 and 160. A small toilet gives it a more distinctive line, especially the rear. Note with attention that now, the CB 500 can receive optional ABS, for 600 €. Spurs that his stuff will not make him lose his soul.

HONDA CB 500 If the name remains the same, the silhouette has gained weight – or rather confidence. The new CB is frankly more balèze. Nothing surprising in reality because the machine recovers the frame and the tank of the CBF 600. Valuing for the owner. Its small weight gain has a slight impact when it comes to maneuvering it without the engine. Nothing insurmountable but a dose of extra effort.
By riding it, we find the taste of simplicity faithful to the CB. Originally, the handlebars require you to stretch your arms too much. Flute! Never mind. 4 screws to loosen and the controls move closer to you. Nickel! The twin has not lost its little character, sometimes capricious at low revs. Yes, with this kind of mill, do not expect to find the flexibility of 4 legs. You will have to use the gearbox and the clutch in town. Good, it’s more alive and it puts you in the bath.
Always easy and endowed with a road behavior free of reproach (this is new), the CB 500 drives in peace. Somewhat lazy below the 3000 rpm mark, the twin tows very honestly beyond. The work on the engine and the shorter transmission is certainly no stranger to this. Between 5 and 6,000, the block seems to whisper to you to play the selector. Afterwards, the thrust calms down, as if it was reaching the end of its power. Don’t be fooled by it. Those who arsouillent on circuit know well this lure. The others will be pleasantly surprised to insist on the throttle. Exceeding 7000 revs, the boiler changes its face. He is giving everything he has to storm the red zone. There, we find its real watts. Does that give you playful ideas? Let’s go ! The chassis is perfectly in the game. You can arrive quickly on the bend, delay braking as much as possible and dive without restraint. Not only does she take an angle, but she sticks to it without batting an eyelid. Who said you were bored riding a 500 ?HONDA CB 500

On long courses, the Honda is not quite a road. Hard saddle, very folded legs (too much for tall people), firm suspension. Fortunately, the latter can be relaxed without penalizing the handling of the bike. Yes, well, you don’t have a Pan-European in your hands either. And yet, with its beautiful autonomy and its honorable perfs, the machine does not do so badly..
With its new CB 500, Honda is improving a machine that was already widely recognized. Her new abilities take her a step above the competition. The success of the old one will certainly continue with it.
