Honda CBF 900 HORNET 2004

The 600 had opened the ball, the 900 drives the point home. She uses the same sytlically enticing recipe. Exhausts in high position flush with the rear shell, large fuel tank and sports heart.
Question look, it’s manly, and very pleasant for street-bike lovers. Mechanical question, it is not less than the 4 cylinders of the 900 CBR (model 98) which is installed in this “mono-backbone” frame. A mill full of watts reworked to increase torque in mid-range. A few jerks on the go-around tarnish the picture, without compromising the full health of the boiler. Flexible at will, he agrees to be led gently in sixth to dawdle like a tourist. A few twists, gas, and he pushes hard on the entire tachometer. Linear in its acceleration, the block however imposes a certain restraint on the first reports. With the potato that it delivers, we quickly took the wheel to visit the sky. It turns, it spins, and the Hornet 900 comes out of the bend like a hell of a devil. Alas, the chassis has a little trouble keeping up with the fierceness of the engine. The frame (the same type as the 600) has been reinforced but the suspensions do not digest the behavior of the bike. Too flexible, they break up on bumpy roads while the frame makes a face in muscular driving. The front axle, slightly understeer, becomes too light in sporting rhythm. The great potential of the mill cannot be fully exploited, while it itches with every rotation of the right wrist.

High pace -> great vigilance imposed. Clearly, the 900 is not for chicks. This lack of rigor aside, the Honda is quite pleasant to drive, with a smooth and precise gearbox and remarkable braking (from Fireblade 96). The driving position has changed compared to the 600: less downforce, closer to the handlebars, but also slightly higher.
If its price is nice, the Hornet 900 has a bad temper. Above all intended for black jackets, it knows how to seduce by its plastic, and will not play bad tricks on you in reasonable driving. It’s not because we have a hypersportive engine that we necessarily have to drive like a calu…
