Honda CBR 1000 RR Endurance TT Legends 2011

Menus

While waiting for Honda’s official comeback in Endurance racing, a formidable team lined up in 2011 with a shocking CBR 1000 and completely crazy riders. The team has a very equivocal name: Honda TT Legends. Connoisseurs will immediately recognize the two magic letters that are TT, for Tourist Trophy.. And for good reason: the pilots are big names, winning champions of the legendary Isle of Man race.

John McGuinness is one of the most emblematic pilots of the Tourist Trophy. He has 14 victories to his name, tying the score of Mike Hailwood. Honda England has also created a CBR 1000 RR Fireblade dedicated to this talented driver, whose decor is inspired by a pint of beer..
Steve plater is also a formidable phenomenon. Winner of the Tourist Trophy and the Macao GP (among others), the Englishman was also a driver at GMT 94. Suffice to say that the guy knows his stuff.
– Less known among us but no less swift, Keith amor won the North West 200 this year a race similar to the TT which is tracked in Ireland.
Cameron donald is a young Australian largely as swift and well-built as his cronies. He won the Macau GP in 600, won the TT in the Superbike category and also competed against the North West 200.
The new Honda endurance team will thus be blessed with three hotheads who live only in speed and danger. It will heat up dry.

In the absence of a highly anticipated and hypothetical RC 60, the team entered with a heavily prepared CBR 1000 RR. The decor from another era says a lot about the team’s ambitions and will provoke an adrenaline rush among all fans of legendary sportswomen. You have before you a real Replica of the Honda RC 30, the legend, the one who won everything in her time (the end of the 80s).

But a pretty dress is not enough to be the queen of the prom. You need fiery riders (no problem there) and a well-prepared grindstone. Engaged in EWC, the CBR is polished from all sides to be ultra-efficient during the two pendulum turns of the race. It starts with slick tires mounted on 16.5 inch forged magnesium rims. A magnificent Ohlins pressurized fork and one-piece Brembo radial calipers take care of fine, precise, efficient guidance, sprinkled with dantesque braking. Small plates are added to the bottom of the fork to change the front wheel in 5 seconds. The swingarm is modified, optimized in rigidity, held by an Ohlins shock absorber and also equipped with a quick-change system of wheels. Under the muzzle, you can see two huge radiators, a sign of a big increase in cooling capacity. That’s how it heats up a four-cylinder with big watts. An engine preparation allows the herd to go from 177 horses at the vilo (about 160 at the rear wheel) to more than 215 horses distributed in the gommard. The original box would have had a hard time digesting all of this. So the team installed an HRC kit with an anti-dribble clutch. The drivetrain uses a narrower 520 pitch to minimize power loss and better feel the traction and rear axle feedback. A tank pushed to 22 liters significantly increases the duration of the relays. And to breathe, a good Akrapovic pot is also available.

So, will this new team be the lethal weapon in this endurance world championship? In any case, the crew did remarkably well at the start of the season. For his first race, it was 24 hours in the gums and a very nice 5th place in the Bol d’Or. For the heats of Albacete and Suzuka, the performance had to bow to the bitterness of the competition. Endurance is also a stroke of luck, and the Honda TT Legends had to retire after a crash in Spain and a rear wheel problem in Japan. The job is coming back … and the approaching 24 Hours of Le Mans promises us a superb explanation with the biggest teams that are SERT, GMT 94, Kawasaki SRC, YART, … Let us not forget that these riders do not. are not cold-eyed, and that madness is nothing less than their leitmotif for the race.
