Honda CBR 600 RR 2008

The 600 CBR will once again amaze us. The 2007 vintage is 4 years after the appearance of the first 600 RR; So it’s time for Honda to thoroughly review its 600 fetish. Shocking, aggressive, vicious … no doubt, but with a persistent sense of dejà vu that runs from one end of the machine to the other. The new CBR 600 RR seems to draw more on existing fashion than on stylistic daring. The fact remains that the stroke of the pencil is daring, surprising, sometimes tormented, with a dose of pepper that is not in the habits of the winged builder. The surprises are there, but where will they call us the most ?

The back? With the elimination of the RCV 211-style ventilation openings, the jump seat seems very wise. It almost reminds us of the 2001 CBR 600 FS. Rest assured, the pot is still under the saddle..
The lower fairing? Inspired without restraint by that of the last CBR 1000 RR, taking the opportunity to mark a certain break with the design modeled on that of the MotoGP machine, which was the stylistic line of the CBR 600 since 2003. Evolution that continues to the end of…
Fork head ? This is where we start to tick. After the ZX-6RR and the Yamaha R6, the small CBR in turn adopts a forced air intake with central intake right in the middle of the face. The first criticism leads us to find marked similarities with the mouth of the sulphurous R6 or that of the Aprilia RSV-R 1000. It would be bad language to castigate like this: remember that it is Honda the first with its VTR SP-1 which created this type of forced air intake so particular, already 6 years ago.

The new skin Honda CBR 600 RR 2007of the CBR does not only aim to refine its silhouette and give it a new identity. It was also developed in a manner similar to the development of aircraft and Formula 1 ailerons for optimum air channeling. Under the dress, the masses were a little more centralized a little more, and compacted to the maximum. The use of materials and…

“Yeah, yeah; BUT WHAT’S GOING ON THAT NEW CBR?”

I arrive there. And there, watch out for what follows. What does the new RR have in its guts? The most compact and lightest 4-cylinder engine in the class. A mill redesigned, re-visited, lightened, with 2 kg less. Mechanics given for 120 hp (4 more than before) and a reinforced torque between 7,000 and 10,000 rpm. New magnesium parts, new connecting rods, forged pistons, technology transfer from the boiler of the 1000 RR, valve to the exhaust, 500 revs more to obtain the maximum power, etc … the 600 is shielded with the latest technological refinements. Despite that, on paper, this engine is not yet as powerful as the Kawa and Yam mechanics. But beware ->

This Honda CBR 600 RR 2007that’s going to shake you the most, the argument that’s going to hurt the competition is weight. And there, I can tell you that I reread the technical sheet 3 times to be sure. For a long time, the 600 sports stumbled on the symbolic figure of 160 kgs dry. 2007 CBR 600 RR STRIKES THE BAR AND ANNOUNCES 155 KGS DRIED UP ! Crazy – 8 kgs lost since the 2005 version.
To achieve this, in addition to the weight gained on the engine, we grappled on the chassis (- 5.7 kgs) and even on the electronics (- 400 g).

To improve the sporting potential of this little moth, the chassis is also damn well reviewed. Minus 22mm for the wheelbase, a 5mm longer swingarm, and a completely redesigned frame around the new engine. Still using the die-casting technique, the new frame is designed from just 4 sections, instead of 11 previously. The rider’s stance also shifts, with a 15mm rear position and 10mm raised handlebars. The suspensions remain faithful to the HMAS 41mm inverted fork with radial brake calipers as well as the PRO-LINK rear suspension unit developed in MotoGP. And to help refine the line, the new radiator is 40mm narrower and 33mm taller.
The handlebars on radical motorcycles, you know. The CBR 600 is now entitled to a bonus like the 1000 RR to calm its management enthusiasm. Indeed, the little pistarde inherits in turn the new generation HESD electronic steering damper. A system that saw the light of day on the first 1000 Fireblade in 2004.

SCould it be the ardor and talent of Sebastien Charpentier that gives wings to the creativity of the engineers in charge of the 600 CBR file? It is clear that things are starting to heat up at Honda; especially for this pistarde who quivers in the hands of our national champion. Fortunately for the common people, judging by the performance of this new generation of trackers, we realize that the surprising design of this CBR has not obscured its usual ability to put its pilot at ease. Honda trademark: when you step on a CBR, you immediately feel at home.
