The fifth round of the 2019 World Supersport in Imola (Italy) did not smile on the French drivers … Perolari was injured on Friday and Danilo wrestled all weekend. Getting off to a good start, Cluzel and Mahias got their rims tangled as they once again played for the win against Krummenacher and Caricasulo. Report.

The fifth round of the Supersport world championship started off very badly for the French clan: after setting a solid 12th fastest time on Friday morning on the Imola track that he was just discovering, Corentin Perolari made a mistake during the second free trial session…

"A violent high-side followed by a percussion with the motorcycle of Randy Krummenacher, who could not avoid the Yamaha R6 of Corentin, caused concern in the GMT94 stand", reported precisely the Ile-de-France team of Christophe Guyot.

"Recovering his spirits during a first stay at the medical center, Corentin had to reassure his team despite a painful collarbone and arm with the only fear of having a broken collarbone" … The diagnosis has since been confirmed, but the n ° 94 is already in France to consult a surgeon.

Saturday during the Superpole, it was Jules Cluzel’s turn to make us tremble by falling at the end of the final chicane. The pursuers of No. 16 fortunately managed to dodge it: Julo got up without a hitch and finally inherited a good third place on the Italian starting grid..

At the controls of his Kawasaki n ° 44, Lucas Mahias had to be content with seventh place, while his Japanese teammate Hikari Okubo will be able to start from the middle of the second row, between the Yamaha n ° 36 of Thomas Gradinger and the MV Agusta n ° 3 by Rafaelle de Rosa.

Our third representative Jules Danilo places his Honda PTR n ° 95 in a disappointing and distant 19th place: reaching the Top 10 promises to be difficult for the defector from Moto2 who had never put his wheels on the Imola circuit before this week. -end. In the Superstock sub-category, Gaëtan Matern failed to qualify.

Subscribers to the front row since the start of the season, the two members of the formidable Yamaha Bradhal team will start in front of our international "Julo". It was his main rival in the championship, Randy Krummenacher, who signed a record pole under the sun. But the weather is not as good this Sunday … it will rain, not rain ?

Departure : Cluzel took off very well from his third place, then braked the latest and dived in front of the two Yamaha Bardhals! The wildcard Roccoli takes fourth place ahead of De Rosa, Mahias, Gradinger, Vinales, Badovini and "Mademoiselle" Herrera. Danilo is 17th behind the Belgian driver Cresson.

The white flag is waved at the end of the track because a few drops fall on the track. Mahias then defends dearly his fifth place against De Rosa who widens in Traguardo and lets Gradinger pass. The n ° 44 approaches the local of the Roccoli stage which rolls a few lengths from the leading trio…

At the start of the 3rd lap, Julo manages to take off … Krummenacher and Caricasulo are riding in a very tight formation and are half a second behind. Federico pretends to attack Randy as Acque Minerali approaches but changes his mind.

A little too wide in the first left of Rivazza, Cluzel was caught by his pursuers at the start of the 4th lap … Passed in front of Roccoli, Mahias was a second and a half behind but climbed back on the podium by setting the new race record in the 4th loop. Danilo is in thirteenth position.

We then witnessed a good pass between Roccoli and Gradinger for fifth place. The Austrian won quickly enough, soon imitated by de Rosa. Badovini is three seconds behind his compatriot and fights against Vinales…

In the 6th lap, Krummenacher and Caricasulo keep the pressure on our leader, Cluzel. Within a second and a half of them, Mahias is joined by Gradinger. De Rosa on the other hand does not manage to make the connection but gradually moves away from Roccoli…

Suddenly, in the 8th lap, Cluzel finds himself behind his two opponents! Jules has just completed a curiously slow lap: he seems to have missed a report at the exit of a chicane … Anyway, the n ° 16 of the GMT94 certainly does not surrender and is lodged in the wake of two yellow R6s n ° 21 and 64.

Seeing the podium approaching, Mahias whips his Ninja n ° 44 in the 8th lap and joins Cluzel in the next loop. Krummenacher is still leading the race, without pushing too hard. Caricasulo follows him easily, Cluzel, Mahias and Gradinger get closer…

Unfortunately at the end of the 10th lap, Lucas stamps "Julo" at the end of the pif-paf! Mahias falls, Gradinger cannot avoid him and falls in his turn. Cluzel crosses the gravel trap and rejoins the track far behind De Rosa – catapulted onto the podium three seconds behind the only two leaders -, Roccoli, Badovini, Okubo and Vinales.

The final, which should have opposed the five strong men of the championship, only concerns the two teammates of the Yamaha Bardahl team … The Italian takes advantage of a small mistake by the Swiss to take the lead in the 12th lap. Krummenacher turns around and notices De Rosa is third, more than five seconds behind…

Roccoli’s magnificent fourth was threatened by Okubo: the Japanese rider had a much better pace at the end of the race. Badovini is a good half second, Vinales is more than three seconds. Cluzel and Mahias are relegated to lonely eighth and ninth places. Danilo and Cresson fight for the twelfth position.

Caricasulo and Krummenacher gradually accelerate in the very last laps. The Italian delights his audience by not committing the slightest mistake. But his Swiss teammate is also remarkable for precision and speed. No.21 even beats the lap record in the penultimate lap !

Federico resisted splendidly until the Variante Alta from where he came out a little slowly … Randy passed his teammate on the next descent and crossed the finish line in the lead. In the midst of a fight for fifth place, Roccoli sets off in a huge highside in Rivazza…

The red flag is immediately waved, ending the race prematurely for the drivers who have not yet completed their last lap. The classification from the Top 5 is established according to the order of passage of the penultimate lap, but does not call into question the final podium.

Randy Krummenacher is continuing his rich 2019 harvest: his three successes and two second places ensure him a comfortable first place in the Supersport World Championship. The Swiss n ° 21 now has 115 points out of the 125 involved.

Third in the first three rounds and victorious in Assen, Federico Caricasulo consolidates his second place in the provisional with 20 points collected at home. Still third overall, Jules Cluzel only scores nine points at Imola and is 37 points behind "Krummenator"

Passed not far from the podium in the Netherlands, Lucas Mahias is experiencing a new disillusionment in Italy. Our 2017 world champion still miraculously saves eight points and equals Gradinger: the Austrian who could not start again, still totals 40 points.

Deprived of an Italian race, Corentin Perolari retains his ninth place overall (34 points). Jules Danilo and Loris Cresson are continuing their intense battle (22 points each) which will soon lead them to the World Top 10? Answer to follow on Site: stay connected !
