Warming helpers are particularly welcome on the motorcycle for the cold winter days. The new handlebar cuffs from Kappa are mountable overgloves for the handlebars. Four heat levels are integrated, which can be controlled via a switch: 40 percent (white switch), 60 percent (blue), 80 percent (purple) and 100 percent (red) are available. The highest heat output should be achieved within a few minutes. The desired level can be set by pressing the switch, which is also visible at night through its own lighting.

Even without a connection to the vehicle battery, the handlebar cuffs should keep you warm thanks to the polyester fabric padded on the inside. The universal attachment to the handlebar should be possible without any effort, fittings and levers do not have to be removed. With a YouTube video, Kappa illustrates the assembly of the heated handlebar cuffs.

How the handlebar cuffs work

With an insulated, protected heating element inside the handlebar cuffs, the heat pad, Kappa wants to solve the problem of cold driver hands. The permanently installed heating element should not be a hindrance or uncomfortable. With a low voltage, there is no risk of electricity and overheating is also excluded. According to the manufacturer, it is advisable to wear somewhat lighter, yet protective gloves in the cuffs to ensure a good feeling for the controls.

Details and information

A direct connection to the battery of the motorcycle can be avoided, because the handlebar cuffs can also be connected to the Kappa Power Hub Kit via a USB port – if one is available. The inside and outside of the hand warmers are made of polyester. There are reflectors on the outside of the handlebar cuffs, which increase visibility in traffic. The glove warmers are available in one universal size and, as is typical for Kappa, in black and orange. The handlebar cuffs will be available from February 2020. The price is currently unknown.

Available alternative

If you don’t want to wait until February, there are alternatives: On the one hand, the Louis Universal Bmw C650 Gt handlebar cuffs, these have the same functional principle as the Kappa thermal gloves presented, only without an integrated thermal pad. Installation on the handlebar is easy thanks to the universal attachment. The price of 19.99 euros is certainly below the presented Kappa warmers, so the Louis warmers could be an inexpensive alternative for those who can do without the warming pad.

At the top left in the picture the Louis universal handlebar cuffs (19.99 euros), at the top right the Bagster First handlebar cuffs (29.99 euros), at the bottom left the Bagster Premium handlebar cuffs (49.99 euros) and at the bottom right the Bagster Exxel handlebar cuffs (59 , 99 euros).

The Bagster brand offers three handlebar cuff models in one size. The cheapest is 29.99 euros and is comparable to the Louis model. The model is called Bagster handlebar cuffs and does not have a heat pad. The Bagster First Premium handlebar cuffs, which are in the middle price segment, have a price of 49.99 euros. They are more reminiscent of gloves, as compared to the previous models, the thumb has an extra exit on the handlebar cuffs. This model also does not have an integrated thermal pad, but the material has been reinforced on the front and outside.

The most expensive model is the Bagster Exxel handlebar cuff variant with a price of 59.99 euros. The extra exit for the thumb is no longer necessary and the shape has also changed from a round version to a slightly more angular one. Unfortunately, this model does not have a heat pad either.

Conclusion

Warming gloves are a great gadget for the cold season. However, permanently attached gauntlets can make it more difficult to catch them in the event of a fall. Since they are only supposed to be available from February 2020, they are a little too late for winter drivers in Germany.
