Katalis Spacebar
E-scooter only consists of a battery

The Indonesian designer Julian Palapa from Katalis Design shows the absolute essence of electromobility with his e-scooter study Spacebar: two wheels, a motor, a battery and a handlebar. Basically, nothing more is needed.

“You sit directly on the battery”, “When designers work with the ax.” or ” Looks like an assault rifle on wheels, this is for the army?”. Substantial quotes after viewing the pictures of the latest study by Katalis: the Spacebar. In its sober, simplicity, the technical essence of mobility. No question.

Battery case is also the frame

What is interesting about the simple design is undoubtedly the approach of Katalis Design from Jakarta to construct the battery housing as a load-bearing part and to hang the entire chassis from it. The upper frame is made of aluminum. At the rear a profile box swing arm works with a steep central spring strut, while a pushed swing arm at the front serves as a guide for the front wheel. The motor sits in the rear wheel hub and has an output of 1.2 kilowatts, the equivalent of 1.6 horsepower. Disc-braked 10 inch wheels with coarse tires are used. Nothing is known about the size of the planned 48-volt battery.

Foldable concept

The highlight of the Spacebar is the folding handlebar, which enormously reduces the height of the scooter. Like the Spacebar, the previous works by the Katalis Studio also have the motto: Rethinkin ‘the future of mobility. An industrial partner who brings the design to the market as a vehicle probably does not yet exist.

Which electric concept on two wheels is the right one for you?

If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.

I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.

A small, agile electric moped is definitely fun.

None at all.

Conclusion

Less is almost impossible and that is refreshingly good. Let’s see what other concepts Katalis can bring with their visions and hopefully someone is brave enough to build these great parts.
