Kawasaki NINJA H2 Carbon 2018

The H2 is not just a demonstration of Kawasaki’s technological know-how. It is also an unusual, furious machine, capable of turning its eyes back into the sockets when the turbine starts up. The test drive was a time of dementia lurking at every turn. In 2017, it took advantage of some improvements and this limited series Carbon. A diva’s whim that she can afford.

As its name suggests, the H2 Carbon is enriched with carbon fiber. A noble material used for the fork crown. What to distinguish it a little more. And with its frame painted in green, it tries to get visually closer to its big sister, the H2R. In the same vein, it is covered with the same paint with mirror or dark contrasts depending on its exposure to light (the Mirror Coated Matte Spark Black).
There will not be for everyone. The Kawasaki H2 Carbon will be produced in only 100 units. And all numbered, in a rather peculiar way. For once, the serial number will not be engraved on a plate attached to the triple tree or the tank; but on the “Supercharged” cover affixed to the compressor on the right side. A way to underline the exceptional side of this mechanism.

Since 2017, all H2s have improved on several fronts. The keen observers will have noticed a touch of golden color under the posterior. And an Ohlins logo that is true to its quality. Thus, the Kawa missile wins a Swedish shock absorber TTX36, of higher quality originally. More rigorous, easier to adjust, more stable, it offers compression and rebound adjustable in 22 positions.
On the regulatory side, the switch to Euro4 had to be mastered. After the mandatory reflectors, the staff got down to managing the exhaust. Larger catalysts, redesigned internal muffler structure and new manifold configuration help meet standards.
Anecdotally, but testifying to the attention to detail, the brake and clutch levers are shorter and perforated. History to avoid the slightest pressure on them at high speed.

New functions have appeared on the dashboard. We can now see the tilt angle taken by the H2, which can also be recorded. This puts you on the alert. If the display allows this, then it makes sense that…. a multiaxis inertial unit is installed. Bingo. With the Bosch IMU, the H2 can improve the reactions of its electronics. In addition to the evolution of the ABS which becomes active in bends, the box also allows the KTRC traction control to be retroactive in addition to being already predictive. All electronic aids become more precise and more efficient.
In a different register but still to assist the pilot, the shifter now acts when raising AND lowering gears.

There was no question for the Kawasaki H2 to settle down quietly in the history of the motorcycle. Its 200 horses have nothing to do with those of a hypersport. And its compressor already makes it a special motorcycle in production. When you look at her, or for the lucky ones who fly her, she never seems to want to stop. Consolidated in its status, it follows developments, improves dynamically and offers itself here with more cachet, more temptation. It will take a little more credit to afford it. But given the already generous price of the basic version, an extension for the Carbon would be almost anecdotal..
