2001 Kawasaki 750 ZR-7 S

Menus

The ZR-7 has put Kawa back in the roadster niche, without however crowding out the Bandits, Fazer and Hornets’ supemacy. Travelers will opt for the S version, equipped with a graceful and protective fork crown. Intended to replace the Zephir, the ZR-7 ensures the sustainability of the mid-range in the Kawasaki roadster category. The greens stand out a little from the competition, which judges only by the 600s. Interposed directly between the ER-5 and the ZRX 1100/1200, the ZR-7 is equipped with a 750 cc engine, for a price similar to that of a Bandit. You might as well be original. The mechanics are old, seem to be almost 20 years old, and bring that little more nostalgia that you only feel by admiring its cooling fins. 2 valves per cylinder – that’s it and that’s good. In addition to its displacement which makes it more generous in torque than its competitors, this 4-cylinder is much more alive in mid-revs. Acceleration is also improved by the K-tric system which optimizes ignition. In low and medium revs, whether driving or on the power curves, the Kawa is largely a winner..
To accompany this engine, the chassis is at the height. The machine is manoeuvrable, the front axle precise, the handling enthusiastic … The turns follow one another naturally and the pace gradually accelerates. In addition to supporting your boots, the footrests serve as guardrails. Too much angle and it rubs; but we must already have seriously attacked. At this level, be careful on rough roads, because the rear can become playful, in a bad sense. Calm down. Grip the brakes, which are progressive and of sure power. The rear is more shy.

A serene ride highlights the very good qualities of the ZR-7. A little leaning forward, the pilot is installed naturally, in very good comfort. Sneaking around town is child’s play. The bike is not excessively heavy, steers well, and the flexibility of its engine allows it to flirt with the low tachometer on all gears. Well equipped, we find on this machine a fuel gauge, room for a U under the saddle, tie-down hooks, a central stand … But what a pity that the elegant eccentric chain adjustment has disappeared.
The ZR-7 is a very good deal. Some will find it lacking in charisma, many will appreciate its simple and playful side..
