2015 KTM 1190 Adventure R

The Adventure has always been supported by a more distinctive version. This is even more the case with the 1190. The big Katoche trail clearly displaying ambitions much more road than before, the R takes up with pride the torch of the off-road – area where the Austrian has always surpassed the competetion.

You may not have noticed: the Adventure 1190 is much more charming than the 990 it replaces. More “silky”, less wardrobe on wheels, it also benefits from the twin of the RC8-R hypersport. The muscle tightened to perfection for a trail at high velocity. With 150 horsepower in the pistons, the mechanics claim an increase of 35 units. Violent! And an inflation of displacement, it is good for the couple. From 10 mkg, we go to 12.7. Perfect for forgetting the weight gain (+ 10 kg) caused by the evolution.

The most spectacular distinguishing feature to differentiate the two versions of the Adventure are the prominent side frame reinforcements. A sign: the beautiful woman wants the path, to protect herself from the ruts and rocks, to face the ground. Its tires allow it for an excursion of this type but are not therefore a passport. Choosing the R is wavering towards this traveling spirit, and the peculiarities of this version are numerous and eloquent: one-piece saddle, larger and thinner wheels (90-90 / 21 and 150-70 / 18), 30 mm more suspension travel, smaller windshield, wider handlebars, tire pressure controller fitted as standard, higher, non-adjustable seat, caster shortened from 120 to 108 mm and wheelbase increased by 20 mm.

The technological innovation of 2013, the electronic suspensions, will not be available on the R but offered as an option on the standard. Katoche prefers to let the pilot take care of the settings alone and at his convenience. At its disposal, a 48 mm inverted fork and a fully configurable WP shock absorber – In 2015, the suspension offers a larger reserve for off-road riding.
This does not mean that the Adventure is neglected at the assistance level. Silicon and digital signals allow the installation of a ride-by-wire accelerator, 4-mode traction control (Sport, Street, Rain, Offroad) and 3-level ABS (Bosch 9ME) On the “mechanical” side, note the presence of an anti-dribble clutch and a steering damper.

In 2014, the Adventure gains a new asset in its electronic package: the MSC stability control. This system regulates the strength of the ABS according to the declination angle. Working in concert with the MTC traction control, it brings a new dimension to active safety:

– the MSC prevents the wheels from skidding when braking on the corner,
– it reduces the righting moment when braking on the angle,
– it prevents tilting forward in the event of emergency braking,
– it prevents the rear wheel from slipping when accelerating to the angle,
– it prohibits take-off of the front wheel during acceleration.

By requesting an update to your KTM dealer, it can be introduced on the first 1190 Adventure, those of 2013.

Whether standard or R, the 1190 Adventure offers some appreciable devotions: a generous 23-liter tank, an overhaul interval extended to 15,000 km, adjustable handlebars and footrests, braking equipment worthy of a sporty, watts galore … and the essential little extra of the R versions: the orange frame. A machine clearly intended for a selective and experienced clientele.
In 2015, the saddle is equipped with a new foam that is more resistant over time although its appearance is more flexible..
