Has the time for great adventures passed away? Where is the world going if epics slip away? Even the Paris-Dakar does not recognize itself any more: it left the City of Lights to fall asleep on the pink lake…. Tomorrow he will cross South America. Even the trails get lost, abandoned to excess, thrown back into the ruts by the law of street fighters and the power of hypersports. Would the adventure be just a dream ?
That’s not what KTM believes, nor Yamaha for that matter. While the Japanese manufacturer still defends the scent of hot sand with its recent XTZ 660 Tenere, the Austrian brand is further strengthening its positions in the conquest of the dunes. His weapon: Adventure; revised and improved for 2009. Corrections or improvements? Just enough to make her the queen of adventurers, with the objective of thumbing her nose at the BMW R 1200 GS when it comes to frolicking between fords, mud and gravel.
New decor, fine stylistic alterations, revised dashboard, these little extras are appreciable. But less evocative than mechanical improvement. A new mapping and a new crankshaft are installed to soften the engine, calm vibrations, and increase the potato available. The 990 Adventure now offers 106 nags (+ 8 hp) and an extra torque spoon. Maintenance of the LC8 is also improved. ABS is always in the game, disengageable for off-road trips.
Note the disappearance of the S version…. which leaves room for an R version. Specific colors, enhanced suspensions, and 117 hp at stake. Enough to see the horizon coming faster than expected.
