Gabriele and Jean Eiler (owners of a specialist shop for vehicle trailers and construction machinery) from Vaihingen / Enz have been adding something suitable to their customers for ten years.
MOTORCYCLE: Buy or rent trailers: Is there a rule of thumb as to when something is more worthwhile?
Gabriele & Jean Eiler: No. In principle, the question arises as to what happens to the trailer when it is not used. In large cities in particular, there is no suitable shelter. In general, the rental costs are kept within reasonable limits. For a 14-day holiday tour, a maximum of 200 euros must be calculated, which can also be shared among the passengers on group tours. For these occasional drivers, rental is clearly the better choice.
MOTORCYCLE: Who would you recommend the classic motorcycle trailer with rails to??
Gabriele & Jean Eiler: The rail solution is a pure motorcycle trailer – nothing more and nothing less. Therefore a good solution for everyone who is often on the way to racetracks or cross slopes with the same load. When choosing, the hanger can be tailored exactly to your own needs. What keeps the costs under control: With good equipment, such a trailer can be obtained for less than 1000 euros. However, it can hardly be used for other purposes.
MOTORCYCLE: And what should the occasional haulier hang behind the car?
Gabriele & Jean Eiler: We would recommend a multifunctional trailer with a practical tilt function. On the one hand, he can also use it to take away his green cuttings or get firewood. On the other hand, the closed platform increases safety when loading motorcycles. With front wheel rockers, stand rails or anti-slip mats, correctly set lashing points and 100 km / h approval, a trailer that can fit two full-size bikes costs between 2000 and 2500 euros. That sounds like a lot at first. However, this is put into perspective if you take the useful life into account. Because such a trailer is usually an acquisition for life.
MOTORCYCLE: What are typical mistakes made by hobby freight forwarders?
Gabriele & Jean Eiler: That it is incorrectly lashed, that belts or fixing points are too weak and that the load limit is not observed. Ideally, the customer brings his bike with him when buying a trailer or renting it. So you can discuss together how the motorcycle is optimally loaded and safely transported.

Bockmann is a specialist in horse trailers, for the steel horses the North German trailer manufacturer sells the motorcycle trailers of the Slovenian brand TPV.
