The 1400 California transforms into the Bagger and becomes the MGX-21. But what a bagger! And what style! From near and far, the Guzzi instantly makes a strong impression. As was the case during the presentation of the prototype at EICMA 2014. This time, we do not go through the hesitation box and the machine will bombard the Harley, Victory and sisters positions from 2016. And in terms of impact, the “Flying Fortress” hits the mark on all fronts.

We can’t … No, it’s impossible to remain impassive in front of this imposing creature. Flanked by black to spin the bandoche to the creatures of the night, the Guzzi gives you a double slap with the brake calipers and especially the red painted aluminum cylinder head covers. The curves are superb, the aplomb formidable, the fork crown exceptionally worked. A profile of an airplane and a bat highlighted with a bubble whose curvatures match the double counter. Unique, irresistible, worthy of craftsmanship. The MGX-21 also gives pride of place to carbon, with parts on both sides of the bike: front fender, tank panel, injection system covers, engine guard, covers of huge suitcases, skirts rear sides … and up to the 21-inch front wheel. A large carbon disc sits in the middle of the rim, surrounded by brake tracks and Brembo radially-mounted piston shoes.

Long, threatening, the Moto-Guzzi MGX-21 takes over the basis of the 1400 California, both as an engine and as an electronic armada. The large twin, with its timeless architecture as well as intrinsic, has been adapted to Euro4 standards. Even if modernism and comfort have taken away some pieces of character, this block counts on a force full of majesty and a commendable docility. These 1380 cm3 and its torque greater than 12 mkg can lift you without procrastination or dragging. Driving is conditioned by the choice of injection maps, ABS, traction control and cruise control.
The on-board equipment is rich in two counter blocks, with different missions. Two dials with needles will take care of the engine speed and speed; two digital keypads will take care of the infotainment – namely stereo, Bluetooth, intercom and MG-MP multimedia platform. The audio equipment bodes well for long hours of driving and something to stand out even more … if that was possible.

A mix of bagger and window display, the MGX-21 defines a very personal version of light and ostentatious touring in custom. Deep, powerful, gripping, the machine will turn heads. The price and the particular aspect of this “creation of series” will limit on the other hand to a very targeted public and informed amateurs. In preview, an undeniable class in front of Rome, Los Angeles, Paris, Bruce Wayne’s cellar or the corners of Sin City.
