Hybrid scooter from MZ

The new MZ Emmely EL2-Hybrid scooter is driven by an electric motor and a combustion engine. How do the two get along??

L.autlessly, emmely, electrically powered, starts moving from a standstill, only at around 27 km / h does the 50 cm³ four-stroke engine start with a powerful grumble and generate an extra kick of acceleration. Up to this mark, the electric drive offers decent, if somewhat difficult to meter torque. From around 35 km / h up to top speed – for light scooters this is 45 km / h, regardless of what the speedometer says – the combustion engine is powerful and snappy. However, neither of the two drives seems to feel responsible for the range between 25 and 35 km / h, and Emmely seems a bit listless. This characteristic shapes the driving style: Better to lose a good friend than lose your momentum.

Uphill stages are particularly tough: if the speed drops too far, the four-stroke engine disengages. Then the driver has to briefly close the throttle grip to reactivate the electric drive. After all, Emmely climbs 15 percent inclines faster than joggers and cyclists. The small 10-inch wheels ensure enormous maneuverability, but the expansive plastic body calls for caution when meandering too actively. Emmely carries luggage rack, high beam and main stand as standard. Your locks and the seat lock are quite clumsy, but why should everything be better on a technology platform like the hybrid MZ than on conventional light scooters?
