Triumph Tiger 1200 XC / XR (2018)

More features, less weight

The Triumph Tiger 1200 enters the 2018 model year with far-reaching innovations. In the future, it will dispense with the name affix "To explore", the division into XC and XR is retained.

Triumph plans to save up to 10 kilograms in the 2018 Tiger 1200 on the engine, chassis and exhaust system compared to the previous year’s model. Overall, the press release speaks of over 100 improvements. We didn’t count them individually, but we did the new one Tiger 1200 looks really promising.

The modern plastic parts and the newly designed wheels are only the optical tip of a whole mountain of technical improvements, which, however, are hardly to be appreciated on the stationary motorcycle: All headlights and light units of the Triumph Tiger 1200 now use the insensitive and economical LED Technology. An adjustable TFT color display conveys the most important information and setting options to the driver.

In addition, the Triumph Tiger 1200 offers adaptive headlights, a total of six freely selectable driving modes (new: "Off Road Pro"), backlit and ergonomically optimized switch units, a new shift assistant for clutchless gear changes in both directions, activation of the ignition via a radio chip and improved cruise control.

Tea "powerful motor with cardan drive in its class", the 1215 cm³ three-cylinder is still in use and in its 2018 expansion stage generates 141 hp – 2 more than in the previous year.

Optimized ergonomics, ABS cornering, semi-active chassis

Triumph has optimized the ergonomics of the Tiger 1200 with a view to long stages; the manufacturer speaks of one "confident seating position", which is due to the new seat, a revised handlebar position and improved frame geometry.

The central element of all electronic driver assistance systems in the Triumph Tiger 1200 is a so-called IMU ("Inertial Measurement Unit", an inertial sensor). The cornering ABS developed jointly with Continental, traction control, hill start assist, drive-by-wire and the selectable driving modes use your data.

A semi-active chassis from WP, brakes from Brembo and a driver’s seat that can be adjusted in height in two positions are designed to combine the requirements of safety and comfort in the best possible way.

Independent of the rest of the on-board electronics, but no less useful, an adjustable windshield, heating elements and on-board sockets work.

The Triumph Tiger 1200 is available as a road-optimized XR variant (R as in "road) with cast wheels and as an off-road XC variant (C as in "country") available with wire spoke wheels. Some equipment variants and, of course, plenty of individual accessories are available for both.
