04-13 Netherlands - Assen - WSBK 2017: De Rosa replaces Reiterberger at BMW Althea - Pre-owned BMW

Winner of the Superstock 1000 Cup with BMW Althea in 2016 and development driver for the same team this year, Raffaele de Rosa takes advantage of Markus Reiterberger’s forfeit to take the lead: he enters the Superbike court this weekend in Assen !

Already last year, Raffaele de Rosa had replaced Markus Reiterberger at Laguna Seca: injured during the previous event in Misano, the German rider of the BMW Althea team had given up the handlebars of his S1000RR to his "teammate" then registered in Superstock 1000 (category that does not travel to the United States).

It was for the former Grand Prix rider (125, 250 and Moto2) his second participation in a WSBK event. He did very well, scoring in the second round his very first points in the "queen" category of the World SBK (5 points for 11th place).

Raffaele then focused again on the STK1000 title he obtained at the final European event in Jerez. To reward him, his team had entered a third BMW in World Superbike configuration during the 2016 "by night" grand finale at Losail..

The n ° 35 had scored new points in the Superbike championship in Qatar (12th and 9th) but also – and above all – with the managers of the BMW Althea team. The latter being unable to field three motorcycles for the 2017 WSBK season, they offered their talented colt a development rider position..

The BMW Althea team has logically promoted its test driver to the rank of racing driver! As of this weekend, he will take part in the fourth round of the 2017 world championship: that of the Netherlands where the weather could well play tricks on the leaders of the discipline … and favor the outbursts of outsiders like Jordi Torres , or even "beginners" like Raffaele de Rosa? BMW Althea drivers’ statements

Raffaele De Rosa, BMW n ° 35:
“I’m really excited to finally start my season. The original idea was to do a few wildcards, but now that I’m lucky enough to finish the season, I feel extremely motivated. I won my first one. Superstock 1000 race in Assen last year. We have to be careful with the weather as it is always uncertain in the Netherlands. My goal nonetheless is to stay focused and do my best. I can’t wait to start ".

Jordi Torres, BMW n ° 81:
"I’ve always liked racing in Assen. Last year I got a nice fifth place in the second run and I hope to do even better this year. The only unknown is the weather, because the forecast is for the cold. The test in Aragon went well and proved to be useful. It gives me confidence, not only for Assen, but also for the rest of the championship ".
