Taking part in an event as demanding and tough as the 24H Moto du Mans (to be followed this weekend in full live video on the Site) is already no small task with a well-prepared hypersportive motorcycle. Taking part in an event as demanding and tough as the 24H Moto du Mans () is no small task with a well-prepared hypersportive motorcycle. So imagine with a roadster … This is the challenge – a little crazy – that the Racing 113 team will try to meet with an FZ1 and the support of Yamaha Motor France !

"Want to go and rub harder than us"…

Victorious during the recent Bol d’Argent (the endurance race reserved for roadsters organized in parallel with the Bol d’Or), the Tauziede, Carillo and Charpin crew of the Racing 113 team decided to move up a gear: "our times associated with the homogeneity of the team’s pilots made us want to go and rub harder than us ", explains Fabrice Van der Donkt, the team manager.

The decision was therefore taken to line up a roadster during a race counting for the world endurance championship. And not just any: the 24H Moto du Mans 2012! Customary to Yamaha, the team chooses the FZ1 as a mount (read our).

"When we spoke to Eric de Seynes, CEO of Yamaha Motor France, who encouraged us on this path, we immediately organized and prepared to be on the starting grid of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an FZ1", comments the boss of the Racing 113 team.

Objective: reach the finish line

Entered in the Open category, the Racing 113 team kindly – but surely – made its mark in free practice and in the first qualifying session yesterday. On the handlebars of FZ1 n ° 113, Mathieu Charpin notably clinched the 39th fastest time in the first qualifying in 1’44.415, less than seven seconds from the fastest lap recorded by Erwan Nigon on the official BMW (1’37.623).

A gap not so high given the difference in power and sophistication between the two motorcycles: the original S1000RR comes out with 193 hp and features advanced electronics while the standard FZ1 only develops 150 hp, transmitted to the rear wheel without any "filter"! Even well prepared, the roadster will therefore never play in the same court .. especially since the S1000RR of the BMW France team is itself sharp like a real Superbike motorcycle. !

Not to mention aerodynamics and its impact on top speed and rider protection: driving up the pit straight for 24 hours will be much more tiring with an FZ1 "Naked" than behind the enveloping and streamlined fairings of the german torpedo…

This is precisely what makes the Racing 113 team’s bet even tastier, especially since this dimension "David against Goliath" is perfectly assumed: "we wanted to show what we can do with the bike of the whole man. world ", smiles Fabrice Van der Donkt …" Our objectives remain nonetheless present, with the firm ambition to bring it to the finish ", he ambitions.

Appointment Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on MNC to know the outcome of this great sporting and human adventure: stay connected !
