Bruno Schiltz wins the Coteaux Rally
A mixed rally victory for Bruno Schiltz on the handlebars of his Aprilia 1100 Tuono: winner of the first stage, he yields the second to the leader of the championship, Julien Toniutti on his Aprilia 1100 Tuono V4. Race won therefore, but no points benefit. Report.

First round
The second stage of the 2018 Coteaux rally will not be entirely nocturnal. Its start is given shortly after the arrival of the last competitor of the first stage, after an assistance delay, for a first loop (two stages) which will be carried out during the day, like the first stage.
A neutralization will then be put in place, after this first loop counted in the second stage, for a second start of the stage which will be nighttime for everyone, scheduled for 9:00 p.m..
The battle rages on in this first round, by day, especially between the two main candidates for the title of Elite champion..
In the Plats special, Julien Toniutti sticks 15 hundredths to Bruno Schiltz (best time for Julien in 2’25.37 against 2’25.52 for Bruno), but the latter does not give up and obtains a time 11 hundredths better than Julien in the second special of the round, Les Amboulons (2’41.00 against 2’41.11) !
The third time of this last special goes to Luc Breban who takes 1.02 seconds on his direct opponent of Rally 2 Romain Cauquil who stuck 5.44 seconds to Plats… Everyone is fully !

Suffice to say that the remaining four specials (twice Plats and twice Les Amboulons) will be the scene of merciless fighting. !

Already between the two leaders, who give themselves the best times of two specials each with very close gaps between them, but also on the side of the contenders for first place in Rally 2 where Romain Cauquil takes a good option from the first passage of night at Plats, with a third stopwatch more than 3 seconds behind Luc Breban.
But Luc did not stop there by taking the third scratch time, coming back second after second to his direct opponent … but not enough to take away the first place of the stage..
In the end, Julien Toniutti wins this stage 2, thus recovering the 5 points gained by Bruno Schiltz during the first stage, the latter behind Julien at 29 hundredths of a second on this mid-night stage..
Overall, the victory of the second Rallye des Côteaux goes, however, to Bruno Schiltz ahead of Julien Toniutti second and Romain Cauquil third.
This second edition will have been a success. The small Ardèche roads were unanimous, the organization is top-notch and the summer weather: total pleasure !
"As on the, my strategy was to attack very hard from the opening in Ardèche", explains Bruno Schiltz. "This big pace of entry allowed me to take the lead and win the first five stages in specials. By giving up less than half a second on the sixth and last passage, I won the day stage with more than 7 seconds ahead of my main opponent Nothing is decided in the championship on the eve of the final. I will arrive at the Rallye des Ardennes at the end of September with 19 points behind the leader but 60 points are to be taken for the winner of the stages of this final ".
There is only one event left, the Rallye des Ardennes in Rocroi (08) on September 28 and 29, to award the 2018 French championship titles..
Julien Toniutti will ride towards his fifth Elite scratch title, but anything can still happen: the battle will probably be hot with the pilot of the JMP Racing champion of France, Bruno Schiltz … To follow absolutely on MNC: stay tuned.
