All Duels - Duel Z800 Vs Street Triple R: the road stars of 2013! - The arsouille, on three or four legs!

In-depth reviews, both technically and aesthetically, the new Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph Street Triple R intend to ignite the powder in the roadster category in 2013. Site opposed these two balls of nerves: verdict !

The arsouille, on three or four legs !

First to extricate itself from traffic when you wring out the right grip, the Z800 swings a direct villain to its rival: the "4-legged" enjoys solid revs and a torque curve better filled than before. Akashi engine manufacturers have undoubtedly been able to exploit each of the additional 58 cc compared to the Z750 !

Thanks to its longer intake ducts (+5 mm), its wider injection bodies (+2 mm) and its lighter pistons (-10%), the Kawasaki block hits hard from the first graduations of its digital tachometer. Between this delightful addition of fishing and its shorter final transmission (two teeth more than on the crown of the Z750), the Z800 mercilessly pushes the Street Triple R in the ropes under 6000 rpm.

From this regime, things get more complicated for the Green: the Englishwoman counter-attacks with an intoxicating mechanical rattle which easily covers the metallic hiss of the "Zed". Just as available as its rival (the two motorcycles start again from idle in 6th without a hiccup), the Triumph does not have the same force at mid-range, but it opposes it with soaring in breathtaking laps !

Less explosive and penalized by its bridle (-7hp) at the approach of high speeds, the Z800 runs out of steam under the series of hooks struck by a rival unleashed from 9000 rpm. More lively, the "3-legged" then rushes furiously to assault its red zone located at 13,000 rpm. If necessary, it can even take a few hundred more laps before the switch breaks, just to avoid a gear change between two tight turns! What health !

Copiously filled, with a phenomenal reach and a soundtrack to match, the British engine attracts – once again – nothing but compliments. And she even knows how to be sober: pursued by the rain at the beginning of this comparative test, the drafting of MNC wisely "rolled up" by going down to 5.3 l / 100 km for the Street Triple R and 5.8 l / 100 km for the Z800.

Stronger at the bottom, the "4-legged" Kawasaki also gives it its money’s worth in terms of vigor, but its acceleration is more linear … and, alas, punctuated by vibrations.

Sensitive under the buttocks and the boots from 6000 rpm, these tingling is reinforced 2000 turns higher by blurring the image returned by its mirrors. They are already less effective than the adjustable mirrors on the side and in height of the Street Triple R…

Almost free from mechanical tremors (just a few tremors at the handles at mid-speed), this one also offers a smoother gearbox (butter!) And above all better saddle comfort: compared to the wood end of the "Zed ", its seat even takes on the appearance of a pillow padded with goose feathers !
