All Tests - First test of the Peugeot Vivacity 125: a very urban scooter! - Developed in France, Made in China

The range of Peugeot 125 scooters is expanding with the 125 cc version of the renowned Vivacity: between the Sum-Up and the Satelis, this new scooter intends to combine the advantages of "Developed in France" and "Made in China" dear to the Mark. First try.

Developed in France, Made in China

In the 50 cc scooter sector, the Vivacity (2-stroke or 4-stroke) has carved out a solid reputation as a chic, practical and economical scooter. Building on this success, Peugeot now declines this model in the higher displacement.

"In Europe in 2009, the low cost segment represented 5.2% of the scooter market, urban 15.2%, large wheels 42.5% and GT 32.4%", explains Peugeot Scooters (the rest corresponding to sports models and three-wheelers, Editor’s note).

Already equipped with a Sum-Up at the floor price (€ 1,799), a Geopolis with large wheels (unloved in France, like its competitors SH or Liberty) and a Satelis which is a benchmark in terms of scooter GT (but which remains however behind the unbeatable Yamaha Xmax), the French manufacturer therefore fills its absence in the "urban" segment thanks to this new model "developed in France" and "made in China", according to the policy house clearly claimed by the Lion of Sochaux (read in particular), like the iPhone in California.

Behind the Vivacity 125 is in fact hiding a clever mix: this new 2010 scooter combines aesthetics and practical aspects à la française – not to say "à la Peugeot" – with Chinese mechanics slightly revised and corrected. All for a very low price of € 1,999: "an introductory offer valid throughout 2010, the price will be revised more or less upwards next year", the brand managers tell us.

For 200 € more than the Sum-Up (a 100% Chinese production of the giant Qingqi, Peugeot partner since 2006), the Vivacity is much more elegant and practical. Nevertheless, Peugeot retains its entry level, rightly considering that "for small purses, the price difference is not negligible".

To enable us to judge the efficiency of its new Vivacity 125, Peugeot invited Site to the European launch of its new model: direction San Francisco Lisbon and its small steep, cobbled and congested streets: a daring city choice and fully assumed to Peugeot’s share! So, bet won ?
