All Tests - Honda SW-T600 ABS Test: the Silverwing is dead, long live the SW-T! - Urban test: surprising in the city

Honda took two years to develop its SW-T400 in 600 cc and it was about time, because the competition was impossible to meet for the Silverwing in the segment of the big scooters. Honda SW-T600 ABS scooter first test… wet and windy !

Urban test: surprising in the city

Long and rather heavy (wheelbase of 1600 mm and 250 kg all full), the SW-T 600 ABS nevertheless shows a beautiful ease in the city. It also manages to squeeze through traffic like any small-displacement scooter..

This is partly due to its mirrors cleverly placed on the handlebars because as soon as the mirrors are integral with the fairing, they accentuate the width of the machine and penalize its ability to move up the lines of cars..

But the light and manoeuvrable front end is also an asset, especially since it offers a good turning radius. Finally, the saddle of a very reasonable height (755 mm) and its well-studied shape allow you to put both feet perfectly on the ground.

From the top of its 582 cc and its 51 hp, the SW-T has something to show off the Tmax which is a little softer at start-up, at least in its original configuration … Thanks to its high torque and with its successful transmission, the Honda starts loudly on fire, without that annoying latency on the Yamaha.

Tmax smoker !

If we are not careful, the legal 50 km / h are blithely exceeded in a handful of seconds … But the in-line twin also knows how to demonstrate exemplary docility and flexibility, appreciable in duo or when maneuvering at low speed.

On expressways, ring roads and motorways, the SW-T shows good health and hangs very – in Germany – the 160 km / h, before peaking at 175-180 meter.

Equipment gaps

Like all recent scooters, the SW-T 600 is well equipped for everyday life. It offers two storage compartments: one is lockable and the other makes it very easy to check the level of the coolant. There is also a parking brake, very practical for parking on a slope.

Its large and illuminated trunk can accommodate two small full-face helmets, but we would have liked it to be able to open thanks to the switch and not with the key, like on a motorcycle.

Likewise, we may desperately look for warnings in traffic jams … there are none! On an urban vehicle of more than 8,000 euros, it’s petty! Finally, a small 12 V outlet to charge your phone between two appointments would have been a good idea..
