All Tests - Test Benelli Tre 899 K: the Tre Karacteristique trail! - Benelli, a century of Italian passion

The fruit of guilty love between a roadster and a trail, the Benelli Tre 899 K hides the temperament of the first under lines inspired by the second … A cocktail with typically Italian flavors, served well struck by the manufacturer of Pesaro ! Test.

Benelli, a century of Italian passion

For ordinary bikers, the production of Italian motorcycles generally evokes Aprilia, Ducati, Moto Guzzi or MV Agusta. Digging a little further, some also remember that among the profusion of transalpine manufacturers at work in the 1950s, some brands like Cagiva or Moto Morini are still in activity, although perhaps not for a very long time for this. last riddled with debt (read)…

Site readers will also think of one of the oldest Italian brands, born in 1911 on the other side of the Alps: Benelli.

Several times in financial difficulty throughout its history – like most of its compatriots – the manufacturer of the 1974 750 "Sei" and its famous six-cylinder returned to business in early 2000 with the sculptural Tornado, an original sports car. built around an 898 cc in-line three-cylinder.

About ten years later, the Benelli offer now includes several versions of the aging Tornado, the TNT roadster, the Cafe Racer and the Tre K trail-road..

Benelli makes the assembly lines profitable by multiplying the variants of each of these models, by declining them in two different displacements: 1131 and 898 cc. And it is precisely the Tre 899 K’s turn to take advantage of it…

Indiscretion assured

The Italian irresistibly attracts attention thanks to its aesthetic bias that arouses two types of reactions: we love or hate the lines of the Tre 899 K, identical to those of the Tre 1130 K which appeared in 2006 !

First taped by its intimidating, almost animal front face with its headlights stretched down and to the sides and its two "retro-blinkers" resembling insect antennas, the eye then slides over the sides of the enveloping fairings which start from the top of the tank to frame the optics.

Compact and curved, the Benelli is once again refined past its 22-liter tank with refined lines and its superb saddle with topstitched seams: with its pot placed in the rear shell like some Supersport and its delightful double lights, the rump of the Tre 899 K – modeled on those of its "siblings" TNT 1130 and 899 – even appears surprisingly small.

Like the brand’s roadsters, the Tre 899 K exhibits a particularly neat cycle part: tubular trellis frame connected to an aluminum buckle, inverted 50 mm fork (!), Brembo calipers actuated by aviation hoses and Sachs shock absorber mounted on a original tubed swingarm, completed with chain tension adjustment eccentrics.

In short, given its sporty fittings, its suspension travel hardly greater than on a roadster (150 mm at the front and 144 mm at the rear), its chain transmission and its lack of practicality (no central stand no coded key, no more space under the saddle or storage compartments and a single daily trip), you really have to have faith or berlue to assimilate Italian to a trail !

Despite the drifts of this category and its growing sophistication (read in particular our), the Benelli is more of the unclassifiable hybrid, in the same way as a Kawasaki Versys or a Yamaha 900 TDM.
