Yamaha Austria favorite for the endurance world championship
The 73rd Bol d’Or at Magny-Cours on September 12th and 13th, 5th and penultimate round of the world championship, could well see Yamaha Austria win the world championship. But the Bol will be coveted by many teams, SERT and GMT in the lead !
If the Yamaha Austria team, current leader in the endurance world championship, has a good chance of winning its first world title at the Bol d’Or, the victory of the Nivernaise event, fifth and penultimate round of the world, will be highly contested in the presence of three other official teams: Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, Yamaha France GMT 94 and GSR Kawasaki, not to mention the top permanent teams capable of competing for the podium…
Only one point is missing for Yamaha Austria against RT Racing Team to win the world crown. Theoretically, with 35 points for the winner, the Austrian Yamaha of Igor Jerman, Steve Martin and Gwen Giabbani, victorious at the 24 Hours of Le Mans against the same official competition, is therefore in a position to be titled in France..
But its main opponent remains the SERT Suzuki: Vincent Philippe, Barry Veneman and Olivier Four will strive to do better than the third place won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on a GSX-R much better prepared than at the start of the season….
Fratricidal struggle…
Not to mention that a fratricidal fight could take place between the Austrian R1 and its famous French colleague n ° 94 of the GMT in the hands of Sebastien Gimbert, David Checa and Erwan Nigon, winners of the Bol d’Or in 2007 (read): forced to abandonment due to a radiator pierced at Le Mans (read), the GMT indeed has a big revenge to take !
In the absence of an official Honda (read), the Michelin Power Research Team took the opportunity to recruit Matthieu Lagrive alongside William Costes and Josep Monge.
The Honda Michelin could therefore also be a serious contender for the podium, just like the Kawasaki of the GSR team with Kenny Foray, the American Kenny Noyes (entered in the Spanish Superbike and already seen on the World Endurance circuit) and the Spanish David Salom and Javier Fores.
Within the RT Racing Team, David Morillon, Frederic Jond and Jean-Louis Devoyon will have to preserve their second place in the standings, in particular against the Yamaha of Amadeus X-One (Anthony Dos Santos, Will Gruy and Ayrton Badovini), at the Kawasaki from Bolliger Team Switzerland (Horst Saiger, Rico Penzkofer and Eric Mizera), Suzuki from Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers (Stephane Molinier, David Brière and Jerôme Tangre) and Yamaha from BK Maco Moto Racing Team (Dani Ribalta, Jason Pridmore and Victor Carrasco)…
Ward off bad luck !
And naturally, other teams will try to finally ward off the bad luck that has pursued them since the start of the season, such as the Yamaha Phase One Endurance (Pedro Vallcaneras, Alex Cudlin and Damian Cudlin) which deserves to finish a race in the top 5, the Honda RMT 21 Racing Germany or the Suzuki AM Moto Racing Competition.
Finally in Superstock, the big favorite for victory is again this year the Junior Team LMS Suzuki (Freddy Foray, Cedric Tangre, Louis Bulle and Baptiste Guittet), but it is the Suzuki Qatar Endurance Racing Team which is playing for the World Cup. Endurance FIM reserved for this category.
This 2009 World Cup can still be contested by the Suzuki Endurance Moto 45, the best placed in the provisional classification, by the Kawasaki Cordoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad and by the Yamaha LTG Zone Rouge, unlucky this season except in the 8 Hours of Albacete (read).
Free practice for this 73rd Bol d’Or will begin on Thursday morning September 10, the first qualifying at 4.30 p.m. and the second qualifying practice session is scheduled for Friday morning. The start will be given on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for 24 hours of racing, to be followed naturally live on the Site … !
