Business - MV Agusta returns to the Castiglioni - Occasions MV AGUSTA

The news fell this weekend: MV Agusta and Cagiva, owned for two years by Harley-Davidson, have finally been bought by the Castiglioni family! The two brands are finding roots they never completely cut…

In July 2008, Harley-Davidson proudly announced the acquisition of two legendary Italian brands: MV Agusta and Cagiva (read). A somewhat daring purchase since the MV Agusta Spa group had cost the Milwaukee firm a trifle of 70 million euros, including 45 million in debt…

However, a year and a half – and an American motorcycle market in free fall – later, the American decided to resell this company in order to concentrate on its only brand (read). We remember that Buell also paid the price for this restructuring….

Since October 2009, therefore, the motorcycle world has been waiting, more or less feverishly, for the announcement of the buyer of MV Agusta and Cagiva. And without much surprise, we learned this weekend that it was Claudio Castiglioni – remained president of MV Agusta under the HD era – and his son Giovanni !

"MV Agusta is the jewel that adorns the crown of Italian motorcycles, I am delighted to have completed this transaction", Claudio ignites, without specifying the amount of the said transaction … even if one can easily imagine the operation interesting for the transalpine businessman !

"I have already won several times with Massimo Bordi, we have made the most beautiful motorcycles in the world and we will continue the tradition", continues Castiglioni Senior. And die-hard fans dream of a surprise return of designer Tamburini to MV…

Because the "Massimo Bordi" who will lead the company alongside Giovanni is far from being an unknown. Having joined Ducati as an engineer in 1978, Bordi is notably at the origin of the famous "Desmo-quattro". For twenty years, the Italian has continued to climb the Ducati ranks (under the Castiglioni eras then Texas Pacific Group, read our) even reaching the ultimate rank of general manager !

Thanked for Ducati in 2000, he has until now held the position of Managing Director of Same Deutz Fahr, a company bringing together manufacturers of agricultural equipment: the German Deutz Fahr, the Swiss Hurliman, and the Italians Same and Lamborghini – tractors, not cars…

The "MV Agusta challenge" therefore hardly impresses this 62-year-old Italian: "MV Agusta has the capacity to once again become a major player in the luxury motorcycle market, this brand is one of the best known around the world. We will be implementing a number of measures in the near future."

Massimo Bordi knows above all that he can count on "the models, present and future, which have a very strong character, innovative elements and a unique design. I have no doubts about their future successSo see you in Milan from September 2 to 7, to discover the future Varese bestseller: the F3 (read) ?! !
