Business - The motorcycle and scooter boom in Paris would have brought in 5 million euros to the community! -

A study conducted by Pierre Kopp, professor of economics at the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne, highlights the benefits of the motorcycle and scooter boom in intramural Paris to the detriment of cars and public transport.

According to a study currently being carried out by Pierre Kopp, professor of economics at the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne, who communicated the provisional results on Monday in Brussels as part of the 5th annual conference of ACEM, the rise of motorized two-wheelers in Paris in recent years could represent a benefit for the community of 5 million euros !

Contrary to what one might have thought, the new users of motorized two-wheelers in Paris are not predominantly former motorists: "50% of new users of motorized two-wheelers in intramural Paris are former users of public transport, and not former motorists who represent only 20%", confirms Pierre Kopp.

The commonly accepted expression of "motomobilists" (contraction of motorcyclists and motorists) would therefore be inappropriate: should we henceforth speak of "metromotards" ?

The study shows in particular that in 2008, approximately "82 million new vehicle-kilometers"(*) were traveled by motorbike in Paris compared to 2000, ie"20 to 25,000 new motorcycle and scooter users".

And as everyone knows – you just need to observe a big city every day! -, "people who take two-wheelers go faster than those who don’t", notes Professor Pierre Kopp, who himself rides daily on the handlebars of his Yamaha TDM 900 and who is also a 2nd Dan black belt in Karate..

Faced with the estimated time saving of 24 million euros in terms of economic benefits (because time is really money!), Pierre Kopp subtracted the costs of additional accidents (- 8 million), the shortfall for the community due to a drop in the purchase of public transport tickets (- 4 million) and impact on the environment (- 7 million). At this stage of the research, there would therefore remain a positive balance of 5 million euros for the community, which should be confirmed within a month when the final results are published..

In the meantime, this information will be to think about when you will again be the victim of an ambush by the Prefecture of Police which sends its agents (hand in hand with the City of Paris, always so desperately hostile to motorized two-wheelers) to take up position. along the bus lanes, with the mission of aligning all the motorized two-wheelers that have not spotted them upstream … 90 euros? But you’re kidding agent, I’m already bringing in 5 million euros to the community…
