Drivers and teams - Valentino Rossi and Lewis Hamilton exchange their prototype in Valencia -

Valentino Rossi takes the wheel of a Formula 1 this Monday in Valencia (Spain) as part of an unprecedented exchange with Lewis Hamilton: the Doctor sits in the seat of the Mercedes of the F1 world champion, who is making his first laps of the wheel on a MotoGP on the handlebars of the Yamaha M1 !

Lewis Hamilton is decidedly "stung" by MotoGP … The reigning world champion in Formula 1 achieves his dream of driving a prototype of the premier class, and not just any: the factory Yamaha YZR- M1 by Valentino Rossi! Quite a challenge for the 34-year-old rider, who had driven a Yamaha Superbike at the end of 2018 and had recently accepted the idea !

And to add spice, the "Doctor" will for his part take the wheel of the Mercedes thanks to an exchange organized by their common sponsor, Monster Energy, with the blessing of the German manufacturer who had already launched one. This "changeover" is scheduled for Monday on the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia (Spain), where the weather is expected to be conciliatory with a generally clear sky and temperatures between 8 and 20 ° C.

If Hamilton will discover for the first time the characteristics of a MotoGP – in particular its enormous accelerations and its carbon brake discs – Rossi will find a world that is more familiar to him. The Italian has already completed half a dozen tests of a Formula 1 Ferrari between 2004 and 2010, to the point of seriously considering a conversion on four wheels…

The nine-time world champion was fast enough to claim to join the premier class of motorsport, impressive even at the time a certain Michael Schumacher! The n ° 46 finally – and fortunately – preferred to continue his motorcycle career, while regularly participating in WRC Rally rounds and some touring car competitions..

"His transition to Formula 1 was very, very close to being done," admitted Graziano Rossi, the Doctor’s father, later. "Because it is the only thing comparable to MotoGP racing, and another option would be a step backwards. But his love for MotoGP was too great." Yamaha manager Lin Jarvis also indicated that Rossi’s reluctance also played a role in Lorenzo’s recruitment in 2008….
