European GP - European GP FP2 practice: Miller keeps the advantage, Rossi is back on Saturday! -

Jack Miller finished the first day of the European Grand Prix in first place on his Ducati Pramac, after completing a final lap in extremis to secure the best time in Free Practice 2 on a drying track. Report.

Sky still overcast and high humidity in the air (90%) for this FP2 session on the Valencia circuit (Spain) which reveals dry trajectories. The track is however still very wet in places, especially in this devil of turn 2 where many pilots were trapped !

Starting with the leader of the provisional, Joan Mir, who tackles this second session with the bit to his teeth on his Suzuki: the young Mallorcan (23 years old) obviously wants to win his first victory! This first success at home would be ideal for the n ° 36, as regular as it is formidable..

  • MNC of November 2, 2020 :

Mir took control in the first ten minutes, before giving way to finally finish in 10th place, not without having played the balancing act in the second curve. Another victim of turn 2: Franco Bagnaia went to the mat at the start of the session before returning to play at the forefront.

Miller intractable in difficult conditions

The Italian failed to capitalize, however: the future official Ducati rider finished a distant 15th position, 0.987 sec behind his team-mate leader. Jack Miller sets the reference time for this day in 1’32.528, just a few minutes after going out in the clearance of the last corner !

The Ducati Pramac rider precedes the surprising Aleix Espargaro, who takes a dim view of the contacts made between Jorge Lorenzo and his employer Aprilia: the Spaniard questions the motivation and physical condition of the Mallorcan, considering him not to be voluntary enough to take the risks necessary for the progression of RS-GP…

Recall that Jorge Lorenzo – currently Yamaha test rider – is currently knocking on the doors of other manufacturers following the announced end of his contract with the Iwata crest: the cloth is burning between the n ° 99 and Yamaha, not really delighted with seeing his new recruit make a fool of himself during the Portimao discovery tests last month.

  • MNC of 6 November 2020 :

Lorenzo – who had taken three seconds in sight! – objects for its part that Yamaha has underexploited it since no test has been set up since the tests in Malaysia in February, on the pretext that Japanese engineers could not move because of the Covid-19. In the meantime, therefore, "Jorgeuil" took it easy and it paid off cash when he got back into the saddle….

This announced divorce is also corroborated by the presence of the American pilot Garret Gerloff (19th), who replaced Valentino Rossi this Friday while awaiting the result of the second PCR test of the Italian star. However, it turns out that the Doctor’s second examination came back negative for Covid-19: Rossi will resume the handlebars tomorrow Saturday for FP3 !

  • MNC of 6 November 2020 :

This second practice session ended with a fine sprint from Franco Morbidelli, who finished 3rd ahead of Takaaki Nakagami. Fabio Quartararo – – climbs back up to 9th place, while Johann Zarco tumbles from 4th place in FP1 to 17th in FP2.
