FSBK - Sebastien Gimbert and Mathieu Gines champions of France 2009 -

Sebastien Gimbert and Mathieu Gines won the French Superbike and Supersport titles in Albi on Sunday. The GMT pilot, in the lead before Albi, did not have to compete with Vincent Philippe, victim of a fall during the warm up. Reports.

While the 2009 French championship titles have already been awarded from Le Mans for Nans Chevaux in 600 Pirelli Junior and Cyril Carillo in 125 (read), the last round of the French Superbike championship enabled Sebastien Gimbert and Mathieu Gines to do build on their lead and pocket the French Superbike and Supersport titles respectively yesterday in Albi.

From the first Supersport tests, David Nivière (Yamaha, Dark Dog Academy) made a mistake at the end of the pit straight and could not start again, injured in the tailbone..

Olivier Four (Suzuki, Team Star Moto) takes control and sees Kevin Denis, Nivière’s teammate, getting closer to 276 thousandths of his time. Anthony Loiseau (Yamaha, Styl Motor Racing Team) and Baptiste Guittet (Honda, Coutelle Junior Team) are ahead of Mathieu Gines (Honda, Tecmas) the leader of the provisional classification whose 600CBR is "not at ease on this route", says the Tecmas team.

Gregory Leblanc made a careful session more than a second and a half from pole and positioned himself in 7th place. In the second session, Kevin Denis took the provisional pole in 1: 23.836 ahead of Olivier Four for 172 thousandths of a second. Gregory Leblanc (Yamaha, Duterne Racing) reacted well and climbed to 3rd position at 0.421 seconds. Frederic Moreira (Yamaha, Yam Service) completed this first row while Mathieu Gines, victim of a fall on the last lap, finished 5th in 1: 25.962.

For the first Superbike practice session, the eagerly awaited duel between Vincent Philippe (Suzuki, Team LMS) and Sebastien Gimbert (Yamaha, GMT) gave the Suzuki rider a small advantage of 101 thousandths. Four riders follow at 7 tenths: Freddy Foray (Suzuki, Team LMS), Kenny Foray (Kawasaki, Team GSR), Cedric Tangre (Suzuki, Yohann Moto Sport) and Thomas Metro (Ducati, TMVR). In the second session, only three drivers did not improve their times and Gimbert in turn put a little pressure on him with a time of 1: 21.212, or 0.235 seconds better than his direct pursuer, Vincent Philippe. Thomas Metro raises his Ducati to 3rd place ahead of Kenny and Freddy Foray while Gwen Giabbani (Kawasaki, GSR) 6th ahead of the Tangre brothers (Jerôme 7th and Cedric 8th).

In 125cc, in the absence of the 2009 champion Cyril Carrillo (TVX, Team TVX) victim of a broken arm during his fall during the Friday practice, Steven Le Coquen (Honda, VTC) is ahead of Jimmy Petit who can still climb on the final podium by scoring 5 points more than Gregory di Carlo (Honda, Challenge de l’Avenir FFM). Follow Richard de Tournay (Honda, VTC) 3rd and Ornella Ongaro (Honda, X-Treme Racing) 4th.

Sunday, the warm up is shifted by one hour to allow the morning mist to evacuate well and the temperatures to climb a little … First final for the 600 Supersport with an excellent start from Kevin Denis who takes Frederic behind him. Moreira and Olivier Four. But Moreira fell at the first chicane and annoyed Four who could not avoid it, lost several seconds in the maneuver and started 9th … Gregory Leblanc took the opportunity to put pressure on Denis, with Mathieu Gines in his wheel.

Four laps later, he took the lead while Four returned to contact, pointing in 5th place. Four continued his effort and successively overtook Anthony Loiseau, Denis and Gines to find himself in contact with the leading man on the 7th lap. The fight redoubles between the two contenders for the title who connect fast laps with ultra fast laps: Four turns in 1: 23.750 and Leblanc in 1: 23.773 !

Leblanc ended up winning in front of Four, hampered by a latecomer coming out of the chicane, while for third place Anthony Loiseau won by a hair in front of Kevin Denis. But following a complaint at the end of the race, Gregory Leblanc receives a penalty of 10 seconds for overtaking under a yellow flag which downgrades him to 4th place behind Denis.

The first Supersport race is therefore won by Four ahead of Loiseau, Denis, Leblanc and Gines.

In Superbike, Vincent Philippe fell during the warm up and broke his thumb, which forced him to give up and offer the title to Sebastien Gimbert even before the start of the race. !

Very good start for the Foray brothers with Kenny in the lead, followed by Gimbert and Giabbani. The four leading men make several laps in this order, studying where and when they could make an attack: on the 6th lap, Freddy successfully takes action, imitated by Gimbert who takes the lead three laps later..

Having started cautiously, Thomas Metro gradually got closer and passed Giabbani on the 9th lap. Freddy Foray takes back the lead on the next turn while Metro, like a steamroller, attacks Gimbert and then Foray with the same efficiency! He still has two laps to go with only Freddy Foray and Sebastien Gimbert left in the leading group, the two Kawasaki riders being almost 4 seconds behind. At the finish line, Thomas Metro won ahead of Freddy Foray, Sebastien Gimbert, Gwen Giabbani and Kenny Foray.

In 600 Pirelli Junior, Nans Chevaux is already titled but wants to finish with a victory: he has a very good start in front of Stephane Egea and Florian Marino, but at the start of the pit straight in the next lap, he hangs on with Marino and fall, fortunately without gravity for him but with great damage on his motorbike … In the 5th lap, Egea passes Marino and resists for five laps before falling in turn.

Nelson Major, who took the opportunity to also overtake Marino, inherits the leadership and crosses the finish line standing on his motorcycle while Marino is beaten by 5 hundredths of a second….

Randy Pagaud, a little off the hook, climbed to the 3rd step of the podium and in the final standings, Nans Chevaux won ahead of Nelson Major and William Grarre (Triumph, Tati Team).

In Supersport, where nothing is yet decided for the title, Gregory Leblanc remains in the race mathematically. But it is especially between Olivier Four and Mathieu Gines that the title will be played, since they are only separated by four small points! At the green light, Four takes the lead just ahead of Leblanc. Gines is 6th. On the 4th lap, Leblanc takes the lead in front of Four with Anthony Loiseau and Kevin Denis, but Denis falls heavily on the following lap, causing the safety car to exit so that the emergency services can evacuate him and the marshals can put the track back in. state.

Three laps later, the fight resumed its rights but the gaps were reduced to nothing. Leblanc contains Four who must face the attacks of Loiseau and Gines. Both come to an end during the 12th and 13th passage. In the same lap, Loiseau overtook Four and Leblanc and took the lead of the race !

Several pilots crash in the following lap and the race director decides to stop the fight. Two thirds of the race having been completed, the classification is therefore frozen on the 13th lap and Loiseau wins ahead of Leblanc, Gines and Four.

In the championship, Mathieu Gines scores enough points to obtain the title of French Supersport champion ahead of Olivier Four and Gregory Leblanc.

While the title had escaped last year Mathieu Gines "for just one small point, it’s a day of celebration for the whole team who are preparing to celebrate this title in a beautiful way, counting on pocketing others, starting next season, warns the Tecmas team !

In 125cc, only third place in the championship remains to be attributed: either to Gregory di Carlo or to Jimmy Petit. Richard de Tournay got off to a very good start in front of his teammate Steven Le Coquen, who wasted no time in taking the lead. On the next round, Petit passes and Le Coquen begins to escape. The first three widen a big gap in front of a group of four pilots (Ornella Ongaro, Kevin Szalai, Kevin Meco and Gregory di Carlo) who do not give themselves any gifts and give everything to be in the best position! In the last laps, the podium positions are frozen while the group where Di Carlo is located continues to change order over the laps..

On the finish line, after Le Coquen, Petit and De Tournay, it was Ornella Ongaro who won ahead of Szalai, Meco and Di Carlo who failed in her attempt for the podium in the general classification. We therefore have in the final standings Cyril Carrillo champion of France ahead of Ornella Ongaro and Jimmy Petit.

In Superbike, the championship podium being already known, the race has no other stake than that of finishing the season in style: Kenny Foray completely misses his start and Gimbert takes control just in front of Freddy Foray and Cedric Tangre . Gimbert, determined to finish with a victory, pulled off a fastest lap in the race in 1: 21.758. On lap 6, Kenny climbed back to 3rd, 9 seconds behind his brother. Tangre and Giabbani are in the fight while Gimbert pursues his rider alone under the eyes of Freddy Foray and wins the race ahead of Freddy and Kenny Foray. In the final standings, Sebastien Gimbert is therefore French champion ahead of Vincent Philippe and Freddy Foray.

"Yamaha would have liked to make me a custom motorcycle, I couldn’t have had better !", rejoiced Sebastien Gimbert:"this new R1 is made for me, I feel good about it, confidence, performance and pleasure come together. I would like to thank the work of my mechanics, of the entire GMT 94 team who gave a lot to allow me to have a great season punctuated by victories and pole positions. I am happy for all the team partners who have been following us for a long time and who must savor this good time. My club and that of GMT 94 came in large numbers and seeing the joy of all these young people at the finish of my race was a great moment of pleasure !"

For his team manager, this title is timely and rewards all the efforts of GMT 94 to relaunch the French Superbike championship: "I am very happy for Sebastien who deserves this title", explains Christophe Guyot."Our Yamaha R1 is a fantastic bike and with such a duo we knew the title was within our grasp. We won it in Albi, place of the revival of a booming French championship. This championship is now publicized and is complete in terms of competitors. The spectators now come in large numbers and the level is very high. !"

In Top Twin, Stephane Molinier signs a new single rider where he has the best start, fastest lap in the race and victory: if he had not finished second in the first round of the season, he would have done the grand slam with 14 victories out of 14 possible! To complete the podium, Thierry Mulot fought well but will not see his efforts rewarded, forced to retire one lap before the end due to a mechanical problem … Ludovic Baudry therefore won a place and Stephane Bovin also took the opportunity to get on the podium in his second round of the season in this category. In the final standings, Sam Matthews finished 3rd behind Molinier and Mulot.

Finally in Sidecar, all the titles have already been awarded (Ducouret / Herman in F1 and Hergott / Moise in F2). Ducouret and Herman got off to the best start and withstood the pressure from Delannoy and Cluze for two laps, who eventually passed and increased the pace by sticking two seconds to everyone.

For 3rd place, the fight is tight between Le Bail / Chaigneau and Barbier / Vannier but in the last laps, Le Bail and Chaigneau take the advantage and climb on the podium..
