Italy - Misano - WSSP Italy: Mahias replaces Cluzel on the Supersport podium in Misano -

Like Jules Cluzel two weeks ago in Jerez, Lucas Mahias has followed the – wrong ?! – rhythm of Krummenacher and Caricasulo this Sunday in Misano. The spectacular duel of the Yamaha Bardahl in the last lap unfortunately did not benefit the Ninja n ° 44 who left with 3rd place and a new record pole.

Friday evening, the two Italians Federico Caricasulo (Yamaha Bardahl) and Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta) were ahead of the stopwatch and in front of their audience the championship leader Randy Krummenacher (Yamaha Bardahl also) as well as our two compatriots Jules Cluzel (Yamaha GMT94) and Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti).

Author of the last three pole positions in Assen, Imola and Jerez (!), Krummenacher seemed able to continue his impressive run on Saturday in Superpole, but a fall unfortunately stopped him dead … for this qualifying session. However, he will start from third place on the grid, in great shape..

Poleman in Australia, third on the starting grid in Thailand and second in the following four meetings (!), Caricasulo did not take advantage of the blunder of his Swiss teammate n ° 21 to win on "his" circuit from Misano yesterday afternoon…

The Superpole was indeed won by Lucas Mahias! This is the first pole for our 2017 world champion on his ZX-6R, and his first since the final round of the 2018 championship in Qatar. The Ninja n ° 44 breaks his own record on the Italian track: 1 ‘38,909…

The first Honda rider on the grid, Hannes Soomer confirms his good form since the start of the weekend by beating another French speedster: Jules Cluzel, who qualifies fifth at the controls of his R6. The n ° 16 is followed by two other Yamaha riders: the guest Luca Ottaviani and the "cousin" Issac Vinales.

Our two other representatives on this second Italian event of the WSSP 2019 are unfortunately much further away: Corentin Perolari signed the 15th time on the second machine of the GMT94 team, Jules Danilo only won the 21st time on his Honda PTR…

Departure : Lucas Mahias started very well from his pole position. But Jules Cluzel starts even better from his fifth place! The GMT94 locomotive, however, delays its first braking a little too much, widens and must let the two Yamaha Bardahl pass..

The F3 n ° 3 also took off like a rocket: Raffaele de Rosa is placed in the wheel of the R6 n ° 16. The Kawasaki of Okubo, the Yamaha of Vinales, the Honda of Soomer, the Yamaha of Ottaviani and Roccoli follow. Perolari is 14th at the end of the 1st round, Danilo 18th.

Mahias leads the first group of eight pilots. Krummenacher does not spare his teammate Caricasulo and goes about it twice to overtake him in the first section. Perolari fell at the same time … He joined the pits and gave up. Cluzel continues to whip his own R6 to stay in contact with Caricasulo.

Behind the leader – of the race and the championship -, Mahias and Caricasulo benefit from a little respite, following a big but unsuccessful attack by De Rosa on Cluzel. Vinales and Okubo compete for sixth place just ahead of Soomer. But Vinales falls in the first corner and starts again last.

The Ninja n ° 44 is overtaken by the R6 n ° 64 in the fast section: the Italian does not want to let his teammate n ° 21 escape and signs the fastest lap in the race! Mahias manages to stay in touch with the two blue and yellow Yamaha who fight – again and again – for the victory.

Caricasulo passes Krummenacher in the breakout n ° 12 and opens the door to Mahias who slips his ZX-6R under the R6 of the Swiss pilot in the following curve! Cluzel returns to the level of the top three but cannot pass his great rival in the championship…

Okubo is then half a second behind "Julo" and has three seconds ahead of Soomer. De Rosa falls and starts again in last position. MV Agusta driver hopes to be able to grab a point or two, in order to stay in the World Top 5…

At the end of the 6th lap, Caricasulo took advantage of the ultra-fast portion to distance Mahias by several lengths. Also faster, Krummenacher recovers second place and easily picks up his teammate. Mahias, Cluzel and Okubo are a few pitches away. But there are still 12 laps to go…

Starting from a distant 21st place, Danilo fought for his part to get into the points: the Honda rider n ° 95 was then 16th, just behind the Belgian Cresson and the Italians Casadei and Fuligni, just ahead of the British Smith and the Hungarian Sebestyen.

"Krummenator" took the lead on the first braking of the 8th lap and seemed to want to dissolve the "club of five". The Swiss pilot accelerates slightly but Caricasulo hangs on. Mahias also elsewhere, unlike Cluzel and Okubo who gave up more ground in the 9th lap…

Randy releases the pressure slightly in the next round, allowing "Julo" and Hikari to get back on Lucas. Krummenacher maintains his – wrong ?! – rhythm on the three following loops and is lost on the 13th lap in Tramonto … Caricasulo takes the lead five laps from the checkered flag.

Cluzel and Okubo let go for half a second on the 14th lap, thus letting the podium slip away. Krummenacher and Caricasulo change positions again: Randy takes control of the race in front of his teammate. Mahias must use the whole trail – and even a little more! – to match the tempo of Yamaha Bardahl.

Jules Cluzel isolated himself in fourth position: the n ° 16 lost a good half-second in the lap against the leading trio, but turned almost a second faster than his Japanese pursuer! The other Jules, Danilo, occupies 14th place but can no longer hope to come back to Cresson.

After cautiously holding back an attack in the first corner of the final lap, Caricasulo executed an impeccable "block-pass" on Krummenacher on the outskirts of corner 8 Quercia. The Swiss rebound a little more difficult than the Italian and lags slightly behind at the start of the very fast portion…

But the leader in the provisional has resources and gets back in the wheel of his best enemy at the end of the route: he even brakes him in the n ° 14 hairpin then authoritatively closes the doors in the last two bends. Krummenacher wins a magnificent battle … and his fourth victory this season !

In the wake of both – unbeatable? – Yamaha, Lucas Mahias could hope to climb one or two step (s) on the podium by taking maximum care of his trajectories … and taking advantage of a gap or a collision … He finally finished with a solid third place, neck and neck with Caricasulo.

Third two weeks ago in Jerez, Jules Cluzel finished fourth in this second Italian race of the World Supersport 2019. He gave up precious points to his two main rivals in the championship: Krummenacher now has more than two victories in advance (53 points exactly ), Caricasulo a victory (31 pts).

Lucas Mahias wins a place in the provisional: thanks to his first podium this season, he overtakes Thomas Gradinger who went completely unnoticed this weekend. The Ninja n ° 44 is only 4 points behind his teammate Hikari Okubo but accuses 94 against "Krummenator"…

Fourteenth in Misano, Jules Danilo cumulates 24 points, synonymous with 13th place in the provisional. Corentin Perolari’s counter remains stuck at 41 points following his fall, but Vinales and De Rosa were not happier this Sunday and their scores did not change more (respectively 45 and 58 points). Next distribution in two weeks, at Donington Park in the UK: stay tuned !
